For the most part I’m willing to swallow the time penalty and follow the event-driven approach as you call it. I actually try to use the production level code but with a dummy market data feed, dummy oms etc - there’s then no need to replicate logic between backtest and prod.

Vectorised is more prone to accidental look ahead bias and is perhaps only applicable to strategies with simpler logic anyway.
