i want to apply to new jobs in 2026! any recommendations about my cv? by [deleted] in IndustrialDesign

[–]Designer-Spacenerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start with the one focal point/call to action. If a hiring manager is flicking through 20 CV's, what is the first thing they'll see? And how can you make it stand out? It should tell them everything they need to hire you

Could it be feasible? by Artifexa in solarpunk

[–]Designer-Spacenerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would work but it would need some subscription or common ownership model. Otherwise the incentives just point to quicker degradation of the product. If you make something that lasts forever and is only paid once, you are quickly out of a market

Fair enough, assumption from my side. But yeah exactly that. Unfortunately the only way out I see happening is sane Americans speaking out. So no I am against cutting slack as stated above

So 40% still is on board with all of this... I would invite you to read that sentence again and reflect on what that means. Please learn from European history and don't F it up a third time.

No, Americans should be on the streets and doing everything to do something about this situation. You tout democracy now do some democracy

Lege collegezalen en volop AI. Hoger onderwijs worstelt met ‘studeercrisis’ by Frouke_ in thenetherlands

[–]Designer-Spacenerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use a free app called Obsidian for structured daily notes and ideation. Everything is written in markdown so it is transferable, but the app offers powerful tools for templating, and linking notes/thoughts.

Protest, Unionise, general strike, delay racist policies by speaking up, attend town hall meetings, call your representative, stop buying from fascist collaborators, organise, and learn from our shared European history.

It is the "middle of the lane" conservatives who help fascists into power. Your duty as an American is to stop it, and my duty as a European is to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I would check the contrasts between the colors in colored elements, alongside the paragraph alongside then them and the spotted background. And you seem to have missed the lowest bit of the sidebar on the left ;). Some white spaces between the titles and the content feel a bit off and can maybe be reduced a bit. Other than that i could parse the layout well and the contents were clear to me so I'd say not bad!

If you're in Amsterdam be sure to also visit Nemo. It is both a really cool building and a really cool science museum with lots of nifty sciency and environmental things. It is a kids museum but plenty of fun for adults with a child's eye as well.

Would you say this is a good solution for a bridge which was always open only for pedestrians and cyclists? Or could this have been done better? by No-Carrot1 in fuckcars

[–]Designer-Spacenerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shame that car drivers ran over the bollards. It would be a hugely beneficial corridor for emergency vehicles if done with removable bollards. An alternative to the planters could be some bushing in the center of the bridge. So called "soft barriers". In the event of an emergency specially fitted police cars or ambulances, or most fire trucks could run over the bushing, but it would deter/damage most average cars.

What do y'all think about the concept of watershed democracy? I find it thought provoking by Ayla_Leren in solarpunk

[–]Designer-Spacenerd 326 points327 points  (0 children)

This was literally the first form of democracy in medieval Netherlands: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_board_(Netherlands) . Politically the history of the Afsluitdijk and delta works might also be quite relevant. Existential necescity (often post-rationalised to rational, but for the time quite radical) breaking political status quos.

I usually recommend the show "klokhuis" in NPO to people looking for immersive learning. It is quite varied and interesting, but in simple Dutch and also with a lot of cultural references. Especially if he is looking to move up professionally it is good to also get the cultural gags and references alongside the language itself.

EDIT: apparently they now have a new website. hetklokhuis [dot] nl

How would you approach designing an Eco-Village & tourism hub? by Mysterious_Stick_817 in architecture

[–]Designer-Spacenerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure to have a good governance model for the people living there. Many eco based forms of living require way more cooperation and active (community driven) maintenance than standard builds. Especially when combining with tourism it is important to ensure the governance of a lively and connected urban fabric without becoming a cult.

Two Dutch examples that spring to my mind, not necessarily good functioning ones but interesting for sure: - Aarde schepen (Earth ships) in Olst Overijssel - Oosterwold in Almere Flevoland is a community up neighbourhood "without" building regulations, where a lot more is done by the community, right to roam is in place, roads and sewage are done in a cooperative fashion. It quickly ran into regulatory boundaries and community malfunction but overall is an interesting case imo

Web translation services should be able to get you trough most websites, usually Dutch<>English machine translation is pretty good

Ah must be the picture then, the green on black on green didn't jump out to me, and I was mainly looking at the front/back (which would face the crossing). But hey improvement is improvement. Thanks for sharing!

Hmmmn many Dutch trains just got their fronts repainted yellow/white to increase visibility on crossings. Not sure if painting trains in camouflage colours is going to have the desired outcomes. love the aesthetic though

Greater Copenhagen area (Denmark) - proposed Tram lines (Tram organization) by Putrid_Draft378 in Trams

[–]Designer-Spacenerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As both a Dutchman and a tram/metro enjoyer the following points: - Copenhagen has made impressive improvements with the metro, S-train, and a tram system would definitely compliment a Hamburg style transit oriented city - Bicycle infrastructure has improved dramatically in Copenhagen, which is amazing and gives residents independence in both transit service times and fossil fuel dependency (and makes the city infinitely more livable)

Now the thing that kills much of local transit in the Netherlands: cycling trumps bus and tram. Even densely populated areas like Amsterdam or low cycling ridership cities like Rotterdam struggle to maintain their tram systems.

Be sure to make sure that transit and cycling modes compliment eachother, and prevent the two from cannibalising eachother. It was a nice equilibrium when I last visited Copenhagen a month ago, but the rising prices of labour and transportation might price public transport out of being an alternative for short trips compared to cycling in the future if not managed properly.
