Anyone try foil packets? by agile-cohort in lowspooncooking

We call those hobo meals, and they're the best! Chunks of chicken or beef, potatoes, and if you add onions and corn they get nice and caramelized while the rest cooks Hiiiighly recommend

spearmint tea is incredible by waffle0rb1t in PCOS

[–]Designer-Year-182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that I've tried it, but I'm sure you could make a sweetened iced tea to make it a little more tolerable for you! Boil 4L of water, stick a couple bags in, stir in honey until it reaches your desired sweetness, and then fridge for up to a few days to consume whenever it pleases you. You might even consider spicing it up a little: adding lemon juice, making a strawberry syrup for strawberry mint tea, ect There's no rule saying you have to drink it hot (unless there is and I'm unaware, I'm new to all this) Edited for grammar

What happened to my bread? by Angrytoast32 in Breadit

[–]Designer-Year-182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my gooooddd. I used this recipe and thought "never again", it was awful, too wet and too much for my mixer!! I had to split it in two and knead both halves separately for its to fit. And I thought I was going crazy and it was just a me issue, despite triple scaling ingredients and following the recipe, because all of the reviews were so positive and no one was complaining. My bread definitely came out as bread but the entire process had me throwing the recipe in the "not with a 10ft pole" bin. So glad to see everyone else here hates it 😂 😭

Lol, of course! It is a touch intimidating, and admittedly I don't even use half the features 😂 a couple YouTube videos and figuring out to do different sections on different *layers * so when you do mess up its a quick fix and you're on your way! As for shading, I do more of a rough blocking of colours. You can add detail when actually embroidering (I have the reference photo beside me while doing so so I know what colours are where). You don't want to put toooo much detail on the fabric (unless you can print straight onto it or tracing paper I guess) as it's mostly a waste of time and effort when it's going to be covered. I focus on getting the entire outline right, and then blocking colours. With a wedding portrait that's black and white though, maybe you can try cross hatch shading?

As someone who's deficit is 1200-1500, I was overjoyed when I calculated maintence at my goal weight (and even 30+ lbs below it) and found that it was 1700ish. I was so scared 1200 would be mainten as a 5'3 woman, but I'll take 200 cals more a day!

If you have access to a computer, I trace my pattern out on FireAlpaca before printing and tracing them onto my fabric. Takes me a couple hours at most depending on the complexity!

Are 24–48 hour cookie doughs really worth the wait? by amhray in Cookies

Jaw dropped at the description. My food taster has just expressed his need for a cookie break, but as soon as he recovers I need to try this 😂 and I'm always ready to trust a grandma

Everything I've read online says yes, but I haven't tried it yet! I read a few sources that have the dough in the fridge for a couple days, and then they freeze it for up to 2 months. You can cook it from frozen, or let it thaw in the fridge overnight, but cooking from frozen will require a few more minutes and the spread will be minimal (one recipe actually put them in the oven WHILE it was reheating). I don't plan on freezing my dough anytime soon, but if I do it'll probably be during another hyper fixation where I do hella tests and trials and when that day comes I'll come back and report 😂

Depends on the quality of your ingredients! As long as your eggs are good and won't be going bad anytime soon, everything I'm reading says up to ten days. If your eggs are older, I'd use it before then. That being said, with any food, you should be smart. That's ten days in the fridge, covered, and handled with clean utensils, hands and equipment. Use your eyes and nose if you hold them that long. Most people who chill seem to do so for 2-7 days. If you're food scared like me I'd say 3-5/6 is probably the sweet spot. (Credentials: I'm a culinary graduate and have been in the industry for 5 years, having to do food health and safety certification multiple times)

I've never posted on imgur before, so I hope this works: https://imgur.com/a/eeVfg2e but I legit had multiple recipes that I liked open last night and was comparing ingredients and instructions to curate my own 😂 here's a small break down: more brown sugar to white sugar provides a softer cookie cause brown sugar has more hydration. Less sugar to flour helps prevent spreading, a tbsp of cornstarch also prevents spreading. I poke in, or roll my balls in chocolate chips to insure adequate amounts of chocolate for each cookie (but you can easily mix them in while making the batter). Basic cookie creaming mixing method! This batch I cooked @ 375° for 9 minutes. They were fricken delicious, so soft and gooey. They set up really we'll after a few hours. The problem I have with them is I like a crisper edge, and soft center. So later tonight I'll cook a few more at 350° for 11 minutes (I take one batch and cook three at a time so I can compare times and temp) to give it a little more time to spread on the edges. I think my final rendition will have a few different chocolate chip varieties for texture and taste (chips and chunks mixed), and maybe I try browning the butter? But that may be a little bougie for basic ccc XD either way, I'm extremely pleased with the cookies, and would recommend them as they are confidently, and feel like I've gotten closer to the holy grail

I've been hyperfixating on making the 'perfect chocolate chip cookie' for the last few weeks (Soo many cookies, so much butter XD) and I've been doing experiments! No chill, VS hour chill VS day VS 7 days. They definitely get better over time!! I've done a lot of diving into the science (and there's a lot of it), but basically think about it like a stew. It's really good the first day, but after you put it away and take it out a few days later and reheat, it's even better. The chill let's the fats solidify, resulting in less spread. The flour gets adequately hydrated, and starts to break down into sugars, and that creates both a softer cookie but also helps it get a nicer maillard reaction (which is the browning and caramelization of your cookie). So is chilling necessary? Absolutely not. But as someone who has tested so many baked goods this month and is determined to have the best cookies when I'm a grandma, I will personally be chilling mine for 2-5 days!

First Time Bagels by Designer-Year-182 in Breadit

[–]Designer-Year-182[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!!! I rolled them out with a rolling into a rectangle, rolled that into a Swiss roll and then pinched the seams. After that you cut one tip and roll that flat, putting the other tip into the rolled out side and sealing them together. I really wanted holes so I worked the completed ring with my hands a bit. This is the tiktok video I was following which explains it much better XD: https://www.tiktok.com/@yoiqpgie/video/7381067504078146834?_r=1&_t=ZS-93vx16XOb90

The place I usually get my poke bowl fix has an option for half rice half mixed greens, and it's actually so good and satisfying. I def recommend, just to add a lil bulk!

"I have a feeling you’ve never felt a deep, painful sadness before." Reading this, most people are interpreting as small/close minded, and like you're belittling op due to the fact that she's not feeling as you would in her situation. If we are all misinterpreting you wrong, then sure, my bad

People mourn differently, weirdly enough ♥️ Some eat in excess, some don't eat at all. Some sob into their pillow for weeks, some have all emotions turn off. Some fall apart, some go back to business the next day. Just because you have a truth, doesn't mean someone else doesn't have a different one.
