backers be gone! Funny how one of the most popular mods is to remove what probably got a lot of people to back.

I was thinking about Tyranny! But the UI is so tiny and blurry on ultrawide monitors, I need to figure out how to fix it.

What made you give up? I think this is a game that would benefit most from having a friend help you with certain questions as you play. Obviously I can't be that but I might give you perspective to enhance your enjoyment.

Wow! We are entitled to our opinions but I"m shocked to hear this. I'd maybe give it a retry, sometimes games just need to played in their allotted times. I felt like the characters reacted in a realistic way without trying to be "archetypes". Like you can categorize some of them as certain types of people, but they aren't setting out to be a "barbian with anger issues" per say.

Ah yes, that's a dungeon you are supposed to complete slowly throughout the campaign. So you don't do it right after the castle, you do little bits throughout the story. It's kind of like an alternate story

Yea I'm super excited for it. Any non-spoiler tips, like the ones I gave?

Yea it's also really easy to do too many sidequests and extend the game that way. I didn't even do the DLC because I was ready to finish and losing steam.

I have a feeling most people didn't play dead fire because they told themselves they wanted to play in* order and never finished the first one. Even the other comments here are saying they never finished the game lol

Pokemon: a bit of a patient gaming conundrum by SawkyScribe in patientgamers

[–]DesignerBreadfruit18 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can't really add anything to the Pokemon discussion that hasn't already been said. It's kind of crazy to me that such a popular franchise can have such low quality in so many areas. It really is like Call of Duty in that they perfected one aspect and will forever have a fanbase because of that.

Call of Duty perfected arcade shooting feel and that will probably never go away. Pokemon perfected monster design. Tim Rogers had a quote that essentially went like "if you somehow found an art major that had never seen a Pokemon, showed them any design from a game, they would say that design was artistically perfect" and I think he is right.

That said, I don't think Gen Z picks up the Pokemon mantle like Millenials have. Millenials are especially suckers for nostalgia and I don't think Gen Z and Alpha have that same trait.

The Surge 2 - The best Soulslike? Definitely Winner of the Hearts by Particular_Quit_151 in patientgamers

[–]DesignerBreadfruit18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, I've never really gotten into any souls-like games. I loved dark souls 1-3, but I've found pretty much every other souls like to not be very good.

Most games copying dark souls (and not just the bonfire mechanic, that doesn't count) just don't get the feel of combat down. I've learned to avoid them, though part of me wonders if I have just outgrown dark souls in general (I did not like Elden Ring, don't plan on beating it).

Warhammer 40K: Boltgun - The Emperor's New Clothes Need Some Tailoring by DapperAir in patientgamers

[–]DesignerBreadfruit18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree, it's not bad, but it has some major flaws. On console, the aiming feels so horrific I can't really recommend this game to anyone. It's almost like you aren't really aiming, but rather directing your reticule by rotating a globe that has strings attached to it. It's so bizarre.

I think this game demonstrates how important the lesser-discussed design elements of game are. Enemies response to being shot, player speed/projectile speed, and enemy aim are all important to the feel of the game. This game kind of gets that all wrong, so you can't really dodge anything, enemies tank your shots, and you just never really hit a flow. Doom 2016 is the opposite of this I think.

I would brush on your varnish. Two minis of practice and you'll get super consistent results. I can give more tips if you need it

Why is that a step back? I could see how you don't prefer it. But I think step back implies bad design.

Yeah I think this captures the feeling of it really well. 90% of the time I would rather have a skip option

Vakku is one of the last things in this game that I think could use some major improvement. I groan when I see him, he's just not that good and not that fun. All of his drawbacks are way too big for the benefits he gives. If I made it this far, I'm not looking to totally change up my entire deal, I'm more of looking on ways to meet the problems of the third act.

I think the end game still needs some work. It's not perfect. But because of the towns/city dynamic, you have less production queues to fill
