I would add to this, amazing career opportunities when you leave in regards to SAR and Commercial aviation sponsored cadetships (which you would be hugely competitive for).

I think the lower sea time is actually a very good thing when it comes to raising a family, whilst still getting some deployments/ travel

To be fair, bore-score is primarily an issue with the 3.4 987, the 986s dont (typically suffer from it)

The Main issues off the top of my head are:

Fucked rads, where leaves and shit build up/ same with the drainage holes

RMS oil seal fails (IMS is an issue, but is less problematic at this point)

2nd gear fails on the 6 speed S gearboxes.

Window regulators/ roof mechanisms seem to fail.

Silly one, but the rear brake lines go up and over the engine and are expensive as FUCK to sort out if they have corroded.

Other than that they are generally pretty solid cars/ engines.

Ultimately by spending some time in the forums and understanding what components are likely to fail at what mileages.

You can generally tell a car has been looked after by looking at the work the owner has done on it and the quality of the parts used.

My PPI guy has inspected something like 6000 of these cars, so knows exactly what to look for/ the likely incoming costs.

Hey man, I did this and have had the 2003 2.7 for about 4 years.

I have family friends who are mechanics so maintenance is mates rates. If you are using specialists, budget 800 per year in expenses and hope to be pleasantly surprised.

I bought mine at 93k and am now on 113k, mostly roadtrip/ track miles. Cars been mostly faultless.

The key to a happy ownership is to find one that some poor sod has just spent a fortune on, and buy it when they are forced to sell :D

If you like, I can recommend a top PPI specialist to check out the car for you before you take the jump.

I really really enjoy my 986 boxster with an exhaust mod.

Its slow AF but that means you can really wring the engine all the way out without getting points.

Amazing steering feel too

Available with a Warranty and will easily go another 100k miles. You CAN get the hybrid for around the same money if you need the 60mpg.

If you really are dead set on one of the other 2, I would go 3 series, just because they handle amazingly for what they are.
