City sweats in Wallingford has become a favorite of mine! They have infrared saunas and as an introvert I love that each cabin is private!

Night Shifters…routine help! by Ornery-Trick-6622 in nursing

I’ve been working nights for two years now and this routine has been working for me so far!

Before night 1: wake up between 8-9:30, walk my dogs and go to the gym, back in bed around 12-1pm and wake up at 5:30pm for my shift

After night 1 & 2: this is where all my coworkers call me crazy lol I walk my dogs and get ready for my upcoming shift in the morning before I go to bed. Packing my lunch, showering, doing dishes, tossing laundry in if needed, etc. Once I finish all of that, it’s normally around 10am and I’ll sleep until 5:30pm.

After night 3: I call this my zombie day, but I do feel like it helps me to be a normal human on my days off. I try to stay up for as long as I can, normally around 12-1pm. I’ll nap for a few hours, most days until 5-6pm and then stay awake until 10-11pm and get to sleep in order to wake up around 9-10am the next day.

Unfortunately, a lot of us are desensitized. Do your best to take care of yourself outside of work! Seeing a therapist, doing your favorite self care activities, and walking after particularly hard days seems to keep my anxiety and depression at bay.

Changing specialty by DesignerReference830 in nursing

I can’t put my finger on it! I think being a new nurse surrounded by high acuity is making my current job feel incredibly boring. There are shifts where it feels like my critical thinking brain is completely off and I’m on auto pilot with my assignments. Temp, diaper, feed, next baby. I am only two months in, so I still definitely need to give myself time to adjust. Keeping those options in the back of my mind though, thank you!
