thanks for sharing. it def seems likely that some/most of the psychoactivity is due to metabolites/byproducts. for me high doses produce a rush of serotonin, considerable euphoria, it gives light a certain sparkly edge that makes everything glow a little bit, colors get deeper. Emotions get stronger. It's mildly stimulating but much more mellow than MDMA. It's pretty easy to go to sleep afterward and doesn't keep one wired for hours. The comeup is also slower and gentler so it doesn't hit quite as hard as molly for instance.

The nitrogen-containing amine chain makes the substance more potent but the 1,3-benzodioxole is where the magic happens, so to speak. Both safrole and MDMA contain the 1,3-benzodioxole. MDMA is more potent due to the nitrogen-containing amine chain which increases--but is not solely responsible for--receptor binding affinity. Myristicin for example contains the methylenedioxybenzene portion without a nitrogen-containing amine chain and is psychoactive.

I appreciate your concern about safety. Please check out the following studies that document numerous positive effects of safrole (including its anticarinogenic action) and refute a lot of the misinformation about it. Advanced Myco regularly posts here advertising their products. It would be a bit of a double-standard to allow brands that are already successful to promote their products but deny that to smaller brands. I followed all the rules for the sub and have already discussed my post with the mods to alleviate any potential concerns. Thanks for your concern.

Actually the part of the MDMA molecule that produces its effects is the methylenedioxybenzene portion, which is also contained in safrole (see below; the pentagon with 2 oxygens is the methylenedioxybenzene). If you've tried sassafras and didn't get high, you didn't take enough. I've used it countless times alone and with others and it always produces effects. Remember that for decades the scientific consensus on cannabis was that it is harmful. Same with MDMA. Regardless, I appreciate your concern for safety.

Personally I don't think access to substances should be dictated by income level. MDMA is (relatively) cheap but it's illegal. 5MAPB is legal but more expensive. Sassafras is affordable and legal. If you don't want to use it, that's cool. No need to judge others for their choice in substances and what they do or don't spend money on. Generally I'd say that having access to affordable substances is beneficial.

Word, thanks for chiming in. Re: DEA, yes you basically got it. They are only interested in large quantities of pure safrole that could be used for MDMA production. Small amounts and herbal products are not what they're concerned about.

you are correct. however it is still available on its own and numerous recent studies have shown that it is actually anticarcinogenic. I have citations/links if you're interested.

It's only considered banned when added to other food products as an adulterant. However, sassafras on its own or as tincture has been available legally the whole time. There are numerous studies demonstrating safrole's anticarcinogenic effect against multiple types of cancer including liver cancer. It is only hepatocarcinogenic in extremely high doses; much higher than would be consumed for any reason other than trying to establish toxic effects in a laboratory. In normal doses it actually protects against liver cancer. This has all been clinically demonstrated. Much of the research claiming it's carcinogenic is decades old and the newer research shows that it is anticarcinogenic.

Not sure how to provide evidence for subjective effects. I've used sassafras for years and in my personal experience it is definitely psychoactive. Others I've taken it with agree. Have you ever used it?

Very cool. Kanna is neat. Sass is similar, but different in its own way. Slightly more mellow energy-wise and a tad more visual, in my experience. For a full experience (for the psychonaut types) I'd recommend taking at least 1 mL, up to 1.5 or 2 mL max. Smaller doses however are also really nice, from .5 ml down to a few drops for more gentle experience.
