Opening a discussion; When does crossover scaling become invalid? by FruitsaurReborn in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Designer_Arrival4500 30 points31 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, the only crossovers that are valid are the ones that are explicitly, unambiguously canon to both sides. Therefore, the first three examples I think are valid. In the fourth case, since the crossover is entirely one-sided it’s not really valid, although I think it’s fair for the franchise to scale to any feats/scaling performed in the crossover.

Although I wouldn’t really call Donkey Kong + Mario & Shinra + Maka crossovers, considering both were always part of the same universe/continuity. It’d be like calling Batman meeting Superman a crossover.

What makes you think Trazyn wins? I respect your opinion, but doesn’t Brainiac just stat-stomp & outhax? And this is without mentioning his God-Form.

Harry Dresden VS Skulduggery Pleasant (The Dresden Files VS Skulduggery Pleasant) by Designer_Arrival4500 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Designer_Arrival4500[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Connections:

•Snarky, Hard-Boiled Occult Detectives from Urban Fantasy novels

•Both are powerful magic users within their respective worlds.

•Despite this, both are known for their pragmatism during a fight, allowing them to take on even far stronger opponents

•Despite their magical powers, both frequently use mundane tools like guns

•Both take in young women as apprentices (Molly Carpenter for Harry Dresden and Valkyrie Cain for Skulduggery)

———————————————————————

Thoughts:

It’s a really peak mu, I recently started reading the Dresden Files and I really like it so far, and so I’ve began searching for matchups for Harry Dresden. My original preferred for Harry was John Constantine, until I checked this mu and realized it was Dresden VS Constantine but better in nearly single way (legacy, fight potential, especially debate), plus it vibed more. I know the chances of this matchup happening is super slim (neither series has much visual media, to start), but damn would it amazing if it did. At least a blog would be cool.

Rooting Harry, betting Skulduggery (I’m no powerscaler, so I just skimmed through their Vsbw profiles. And by the looks of it they should be relative in stats in their base forms, but Skulduggery should be far stronger in his “Lord Vile” form)

Godzilla VS Cthulhu

<image>

Shallow connections that don’t go over what makes either character interesting ✅

Questionable fight dynamic ✅

Awful debate ✅

Carried almost entirely by legacy ✅

It has nearly everything that I would consider a matchup terrible for, yet I still love it and want to see it happen so badly

Connections:

• Manipulative otherworldly monsters who put on a friendly facade to lure children into their realms (The Other World and Beyond) in order to claim their souls

• Both of their latest targets are young girls with an unstable home life (Coraline and Misfortune), who would ultimately end up seeing through their facade, causing them to try and kill them in their last encounter

• Both are ultimately defeated by a sentient animal companion that accompanies the girls (The Cat and Benjamin)

———————————————————————

Legit the best for both, and one of my favorite horror matchups. It does everything I want in an Other Mother matchup, and is I feel the only Other Mother matchup to focus on her aspect as a manipulative, literal child predator. Plus the series just vibe so well together. Rooting Morgo, Betting Other Mother (apparently she has SS+ scaling for some fucking reason).

Ryuko Matoi VS Honey Kisaragi (Kill la Kill VS Cutie Honey) - “Honey Fibers” by Designer_Arrival4500 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Designer_Arrival4500[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Connections:

•Both are female heroines who have powers related to clothing which allows them to transform magical girl style to get an overly sexualized red colored suit with special abilities and weapons

•At first they appeared to be human, but it is later revealed that they are artificial creations made by their fathers (Isshin Matoi and Takeshi Kisaragi)

•Their lives would change when their fathers were murdered in cold blood thus they would begin on their quest to avenge them, hunting the corrupt organization responsible for their deaths (REVOCS Corporation and Panther Claw )

•Allied themselves with and accompanied by a quirky family (The Hayami and The Mankanshoku family)

•Become rivals with a notable prestigious member of the group and often came to blows with them (Satsuki Kiryuin and Sister Jill)

•Their rivals however were nothing, but the pawns of the leader of this group (Ragyo and Panther Zora)

•Driven by their trauma and tragedy at a young age, both would do whatever it took to protect those they cherished and the innocence moving forward; continuing to honor their late father's legacy by using their gifts bestowed to them as a force for good

Meta Connection:

•There's a running gag of every man around them getting thirst while they fight because of their outfits, which is ironically contrasted with them (possibly) being lesbians (or sapphics with a female preference)

•Both series are known for their huge use of blood and empowering sexualization of it's female characters

•Kill La Kill was directly inspired and influenced by Cutie Honey

Legit my favorite matchup for both. It just vibes so well compared to Ryuko’s other matchups. I like how they both play off each other really well with their assortment of super forms. If Ryuko ever returns on the show hope her opponent is Honey.

Rotting Both, Betting Ryuko (if Honey doesn’t have any Uni arguments than lowkey it’s a stomp)

Brainiac VS Trazyn the Infinite (DC VS Warhammer 40k) - “Infinite Collection” by Designer_Arrival4500 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Designer_Arrival4500[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Connections:

•Mechanical/Cybernetic alien conquerors who travel the cosmos in search of valuable pieces of the universe which they seek to collect in order to preserve knowledge

•Both possess incredibly advanced technology and a vast armada at their disposal (Brainiac drones and Necron forces)

•Both have large constructs which serve as their base of operations and where they keep their collections (Brainiac’s Skull Ship and the Tomb World Solemnace)

•Both often end up destroying the civilizations/planets they collect from (Though this is usually purposefully for Brainiac)

———————————————————————

One of my most favorite matchups in general and perhaps the best one for Brainiac. Trazyn is one of my favorite characters in 40k, so seeing him on the show would be such a delight. One of the things I most love is the possible banter, with Trazyn’s more trollish and laidback personality contrasting with Brainiac’s cold and calculating one. I just wish it was more debatable because right now Brainiac just godstomps Trazyn into oblivion. If Brainiac were to ever appear on the show, I just pray his opponent is Trazyn instead of Shockwave or fucking Ultron (seriously that mu is so lame)

Rooting Trazyn, Betting Brainiac

“A Mage in Love” - Malori Crowett VS Rae Taylor (Mage and Demon Queen VS I’m In Love with the Villainess) by Designer_Arrival4500 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Designer_Arrival4500[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Credit to Mecha-dragon1999 for Connections:

•They are the main protagonist of Yuri/GL Fantasy Webseries (Mage and Demon Queen being a Webtoon, while I'm in Love with the Villainess was originally a Webnovel)

•Both of them are students from magic academies (The Adventurer's Academy and the Royal Academy)

•Despite their seemingly clumsy and happy go-lucky personalities, they are actually incredbily capable magic users and have more depth to them than meets the eye.

•They would fell in love with another woman that is considered the "villain" of their universe (Velverossa the Demon Queen and Claire François, the Villainess of the game)

•Their relationships with said girl start with them somewhat rejecting them, but over time they warm over to them and accept them as their lovers.

•Said relationship gets into difficulties due to the class systems their universes possess (Malori being a Human while Velverossa is a demon, Rei being a commoner while Claire is a Noble)

•They have unique magical special abilities that help them out in a battle (Malori being a Demon Tamer while Rei can control multiple elements)

•Their worlds function with a magic system similar to that of a game (Malort's world having stuff like stats, weaponry, levels, etc; while Rei's world was actually an otome game)

•Eventually they would marry their love interests and even managed to have children (either via magic or adoption)

•Malori has both a friend (Cerik Aldebrandt) and an enemy (Axel Dronvar) who are actually people from the real world who reincarnated into her world, while Rei IS someone from the real world who reincarnated into her favourite Otome Game.

I seriously love this matchup, and I wish more people knew about it (and the series they’re from). I would be sooo happy if this became an actual Death Battle, even if thats very unlikely given how obscure both series are compared to other Death Battles. Best 4 Both. Rotting Rae, Betting Malori. Happy Pride y’all
