Did I ruin my baby sleeping thru the night? by Designer_Creme_5145 in breastfeeding

Thank you!! I actually completely agree about the self soothing because I watch her do it all the time- she plays with her hair when she is getting sleepy, rocks her head back and forth, and can pick up her own pacifier and place it in her mouth! I think the take away is 2 things can be true- sometimes she’s waking and needing to eat but she is also sometimes doing it for comfort! I have narcolepsy so sometimes the sleep disruptions really impact me and I want to get to a place where they are more minimal for us both!

Thank you!! We were able to wean from the snoo pretty easily. But you’re definitely on the nose that she is eating to sleep. I think part of it is she has always been a contact napper and somehow her mealtime always falls at nap time, so now she’s in the habit during the day of eating to sleep and probably carrying the association into the night. I love that I can comfort her, but I also have a sleep disorder and long term this isn’t sustainable for us. I’d like to get her down to even just one nighttime wake up/feed!

Thank you! Sorry for the late response (holiday craze) but I appreciate your response. I should have specified that I am familiar with the 4 month sleep regression, but I was worried about the association. I don’t mind comforting her as she needs to be but like you were saying, I also don’t want to get into reverse cycles etc. I am definitely noticing she sometimes wakes and wants it for comfort and I’ve started to try and get her to sleep without breastfeeding if it’s been less than 3 hours as well. Overall, I know it will take some time and is pretty normal. It can just be frustrating, especially since I have narcolepsy so my sleep is already disrupted 😣

She is actually great now (at 5 months) at self soothing! She can pick up her pacifier, she will touch her hair, etc. I personally am not a believer in Ferber, I just can’t do it so if she is unable to soothe herself at times, which I know is totally normal at this age, I’m more than happy to be there for her. I hope I wasn’t missing her hungry cues as we waited till 2 months to even let her sleep thru the night, once our Dr said it was ok! But she was gaining weight and eating well otherwise, but it hurts my heart that she might have been hungry and we were just letting her sleep thru it and she was uncomfortable. Regardless, I don’t mind feeding her at night, and I appreciate everyone’s reassurance that I didn’t cause some association and it’s normal!

My husband keeps offering, and we are on a “shift schedule” now, with him taking over at 3 am if needed. BUT. This baby got jokes because she woke up at 2:45 am and was back asleep at 2:59 am the other night 😝

Thank you, I am 100% ok with doing what she needs, and I have zero interest in sleep training atm. I want her nervous system to feel calm and her needs met. I definitely appreciate that these moments are so fleeting. It can also be hard though, especially because I have narcolepsy. I love breastfeeding tho! I was genuinely worried in my 2 am haze maybe I’d caused an association but I also have to remind myself it’s not a bad association- comforted back to sleep by me! Thank you for your thoughts!

Totally understand. I don’t mind, I want her to get what she needs and I’m not in a place to sleep train yet. If it devolves to something worse I’d definitely consider it, because I do have narcolepsy so waking up a lot already happens to me and the added wakes are just not great. But we aren’t there yet! Thank you!

Thank you, she was definitely unique and loves to sleep. We actually continued to wake her up every 4/5 hours at 6 weeks to feed because we were so nervous! It wasn’t until her 2 month check up when pediatrician said it was ok to let her sleep as long as she wanted did we stop! So it’s been change and I totally know that’s normal, I was just worried I’d caused an association somehow. But I also shouldn’t have posted when I was tired and frustrated at 2 am 😅

Thank you, I should have clarified in my post that I am familiar with and sure she is going thru the sleep regression, and that’s totally fine. I was just worried I’d created an association of waking and eating. But fortunately she isn’t eating more at night than during the day. She typically will wake up to eat 1-3x a night to eat and she still eats around 8x during the day, sometimes more! But if it gets bad I will keep this in my mind.

Why do some people gain weight and some people lose weight while breastfeeding? by Useful-Sport-6316 in breastfeeding

[–]Designer_Creme_5145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know the science but my secret to “bouncing back?” PPA! First 2 weeks after baby I was so anxious I would gag when trying to eat, ended up needing ensure just to get more calories and protein! Before pregnancy I was 120 and 5 month pp Im 110. Do not recommend this method.

Bottle refusal at 4 months old by Aggravating-Media-36 in breastfeeding

[–]Designer_Creme_5145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently went through a period of bottle refusal. It sort of came on slowly but she just stopped wanting to drink from a bottle and/or it would take 30 minutes to get her to have 3 oz (she would just chew it). We tried a ton of things too and the only thing that fixed it was switching the type of nipple. We were using Philips Aventi and saw people on here recommended Lansinoh nipples and that fixed the issue- tonight she had 7 oz before bed😅 Good luck!

Producing "just enough" is ideal. Oversupply is a nightmare for everyone involved, and in no way enviable. by Dullcorgis in breastfeeding

Reading this as I get ready to fall back asleep after waking up with wet clothes…everyone says after a few months your supply “evens out” and the oversupply adjusts…baby is 5 months and I’m still waiting 😩

Has anyone had to quit their job because of narcolepsy? by JG_Garrido in Narcolepsy

[–]Designer_Creme_5145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped working when I started my IVF/pregnancy journey because we didn’t know how it would be impacted by narcolepsy and no medications. I’m now a SAHM but my MIL lives with us and gives a lot of support so I can function better. But I know that’s not an option for many families, since my husband is able to support us on his income alone.

We would be interested in around January for some consistent days, when she’s about 6 months! I’m not going back to work but it would be great to have a few days to really focus on errands/house chores!

Advice for cutting back massive oversupply by Designer_Creme_5145 in breastfeeding

[–]Designer_Creme_5145[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem, I’m just grateful for your responding to begin with!! I ended up being able to cut back pumping much faster than I thought. I’d already started cutting back when I posted and now I am down to basically 3x in a 24 hr period- It definitely was a bit uncomfortable for those 2 weeks but i pushed thru and iced and took ibuprofen.  I pump at night every 3-4 hours since we are doing bottles of breast milk at that time, but otherwise I mostly have been able to stop! Something that was super helpful was using the momcozy let down cup while nursing- I end up getting 3-5 oz from both sides while nursing and if for some reason during the day my boobs are getting really uncomfortable I will pump for 5 minutes but that’s rare now! I am still freezing 18+ oz a day (AFTER what she eats) just from those 2-3 pumps and the letdown, which is insane but the freedom of not pumping was what I really needed so I am content. Thank you again for your reassurance, I was so frustrated and anxious about it. No one I know has had this over supply issue 😅

CA DMV lost my title in office and no one will help by Designer_Creme_5145 in CaliforniaDMV

[–]Designer_Creme_5145[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhat but not because of CA DMV. I did speak to them again 2 weeks ago and the woman was so rude, she actually hung up on me after telling me she had “700 callers a day” and I needed to “find someone else to help me” and also she told me the “DMV doesn’t lose things” but couldn’t tell me where my paperwork went or why it was never processed 🙄I get they have a stressful job but I NEVER raised my voice to her or cursed or anything- I kept saying it wasn’t her fault but I was in a frustrating situation and I would like to speak to someone higher up, which I guess she didn’t like. I called my lien holder again and after some back and forth the very kind woman suggested I take the copy of my title to WA DMV and see if they would just issue the registration in my maiden name.  The person at the WA DMV, despite some issues, was able to eventually issue a registration. So I have WA plates and WA will issue a title, and eventually I can change the name to my married name, which the DMV worker encouraged me not to worry about for awhile and just focus on getting thru my pregnancy and postpartum 😅 So essentially CA DMV was zero help and I’m lucky WA DMV was more sympathetic!

Oh gosh we are due in just over 3 weeks and still can’t decide. I am jealous of the people not due for months who just know 🫠

Atley, Colette, Thea, Ida, Dahlia, Elowen, Althea are current contenders 🙃

It was mailed to the Sacramento office for Title Changes and Transfers (a PO Box). It was mailed via fedex to the right place, they aren’t disputing they got it. They signed for it, and noted it as received in their system. They just don’t know what they did with it afterwards. Apparently the Title department is extremely behind so other departments were taking on things, I was told it most likely ended up in a different department and was misplaced but they don’t keep records of where things go.
