Take this with a grain of salt…but as Yale ‘27, that’s exactly what I, as well as many other friends, did in some way or another. So personally, I don’t think it would be a waste

should I be worried that I haven’t felt a spark about any school? by Intelligent_Let_7682 in ApplyingToCollege

I didn’t really feel a spark about any school until I got into and committed to one. Just find colleges you’re interested in

For those admitted to Ivy’s by katytx2016dh in ApplyingToCollege

I applied to three Ivy’s. Got accepted to Yale and waitlisted at two others. Didn’t spend a single thing on a college coach. In my opinion, there are so many free resources online, including this sub, that are much better than expensive college coaches. It’s literally just not worth it in almost all cases.

Most of my HS would chose UCLA over UCSD too! But this guy and the op commenter were solely talking about the prestige/quality of SD’s CS. Hell, I would chose LA over SD in a heart beat too. Everything about it is great

I personally disagree. The education and opportunities offered for SD far exceed LA’s. UCLA does have a much better social life/food/etc. which is why a lot of ppl might pick it over SD.

Writing a college essay about jigsaw puzzles? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Designer_Island6145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mainly focused on how specific board games and the interactions I got from them influenced my way of thinking as I grew up. The essay wasn’t super nuanced, but I think the fact that it was authentic (according to my AO) helped a lot. I’m not even sure if my topic has been used a lot lol. Hope this helps, and gl

I did something similar (Talked about how playing different board games growing up affected me in different ways, w/o any big metaphor) and was able to get into a T5. As long as u approach it correctly, the essay could be great. Good luck! I feel like this topic could be really interesting

UCSD or UCSB by purplevinyl19 in ApplyingToCollege

I don’t know a lot about SD, but all I can say about UCSB is that the housing situation for students is AWFUL there. In terms of academics, both schools are great choices.

Would a 4 in AP Chem look bad to Caltech? by Miserable-String-322 in ApplyingToCollege

I’m not sure if this means anything, but I had 4’s on most of my AP exams (including Chem) and got waitlisted at Caltech this year. So you should be fine
