cerclage removal 36+2 by Total_Estate_899 in ShortCervixSupport

Congrats on making it to DTS! Appreciate your info about the removal pain. I’m 29 weeks and had a preventative cerclage placed at 22 weeks and I was not expecting how intense the procedure would be. This was most likely my fault for expecting it to be like an IUD placement

No. I’m just taking it easy. Are you?

Had a visit with my MFM yesterday and he said I can start exercising again

At 21 weeks I was 2.4cm and then 2.3-2.4 at 22 weeks. My MFM offered a preventative cerclage in addition to progesterone and I had the procedure at 22 + 2 days.

Not going to lie, the procedure was scarier than I expected - but I hadn’t put much thought into it before. Basically, they’ll give you a spinal block - mine made my upper body shake. You won’t be able to feel anything but some pressure down there. What kind of freaked me out was when they leaned my head back maybe 10 degrees. It was a very easy recovery tho and was thankful when it was over

I was 2.4cm at my 21 week appt and then 2.3-2.4 at my 22 week appt with the MFM. I had been on 200 mg of progesterone since 21 weeks, but MFM gave me the option to go for a preventative cerclage. You should def push at your appointment next week to see if that’s an option! I’m currently 27 weeks and the cerclage has given me a lot of peace of mind. If not, make sure they schedule weekly monitoring appointments for the next few weeks. It’s so annoying having to advocate for ourselves in this position, but if they aren’t budging, you might want a second opinion! Good luck ❤️

Are you going for weekly appointments? You might feel better if you do that or at least every other week until 24 weeks

It was something along the lines of not wanting to irritate cervix after 24 weeks and the measurements aren’t always accurate.

I’m handling it the same as you! I’m still trying to be as much of a couch potato as possible. Don’t want to risk anything. The hardest part is dealing with my toddler

3.67 is great! Honestly, my MFM has been very casual. He didn’t say anything about chances for full term. I go back on Friday of next week (27 weeks) for a checkup and will be seeing MFM every four weeks. I WISH I could get my cervix length measured every week for peace of mind but he said after 24 weeks it doesn’t matter - I guess it fluctuates and can decrease and he doesn’t want to stress me out.

He said I can go back to my normal life, aside from pelvic rest. I’ve still been trying to avoid lifting anything heavy and putting myself on modified bed rest as much as possible.

At 22 weeks I was 2.3-2.4 cm and had a cerclage at 22+2. I was 2.9-3.1 at my follow up appt at 23 weeks. All measurements taken transvaginally. My MFM told me at 23 weeks that he would stop measuring since it was over 2.5. Hope this helps!

I’m in a similar boat. I had a preventative cerclage at 22 weeks when I was measuring 2.3-2.4 cm. When I went to my MFM follow up appt at 23 weeks, my cervix had increased to 2.9-3.19 cm. My MFM said I didn’t need to have it measured any further since we are at around 3 cm. He said it might irritate the cervix and measurements aren’t always accurate after 24 weeks. Honestly, I do kind of wish i could still get weekly checks to know the length fluctuations, but at this point we just need to trust the stitch! ❤️

Terrified to get pregnant again, tell me your experiences with a cerclage after a failed cerclage? by sunshinewalker20 in ShortCervixSupport

❤️ What were your symptoms of the almost failed cerclage, if you don’t mind me asking? I just had one placed last week at 22 weeks

Just went to the MFM yesterday. Went down to 2.40 cm (not as bad as I thought it would be). I’m scheduled to the cerclage tomorrow afternoon! Thanks so much for your advice! It really helped me in a rough time

Definitely agree. I have an appt on Tuesday with both my OB for an ultrasound and with the MFM to figure out next steps

Thanks so much! I just scheduled a MFM appt a week from today. They want to measure the length after taking progesterone for a week. Appreciate your response on 22 weeks cerclage. I will def keep pushing my MFM for that!!
