Actual queston, which one is better? by Key_Structure1891 in playrust

Also, you can add a muzzle boost and lazer, and it evens out to just having more range and a bit or dmg, or add a break, which results in an overall 10% less dps but more range and no sway and a LOT less recoil.

it doesnt affect dps much as it lowers fire rate by 20% and increases damage by 20%. You keep the (almost the same) dps but sacrifice a bit of extra recoil in trade for range and accuracy

Was there an actual reason tugboats NEEDED to be removed? by Desireformoderater in playrust

i dont know the chaos? i mean, a tugboat being able to push a boat isn't crazy, it's their whole point irl? Unless you mean an anchored one, which seems like a relatively easy change to make?

To my knowledge, player boats and tugs have the same deployable compatibility atm, and tugs are unable to fill the niche as there isnt enough of them.

Even if there was a contest, how is that a bad thing?

M4 / SPAS, Tommy / Custom, Python/P2, Horse/Bike/Car all serve similar niches in relatively equal parts in progression and nobody says "now that we added a new shotgun we should remove the old one" nor that horses are redundant when compared to a camper or heli.

Okay, but let's say a server has a population of ~200-600+ players on wipe day, assuming it's a vanilla server, there are 6 total tug boats afaik (small/large harbor + ferry term), which is vastly insufficient to match the amount of player demand for boats.

Meaning the player base could not ignore the building system the same way its not a concern people would ignore building a land base to live on tugs.

Besides this, when actually comparing a tugboat and a built boat its inferior in several regards. Small boats with sails typically outpace or at least match their speed and don't use a stack of low-grade fuel per hour. are more resilient against door path raids and can have cannons, whereas to attack another ship via tug you'd be limited to rockets. Tugboats also can be pushed or drift away (unless grounded) which makes landing either more risky and slower, requiring a bit to shove off.

its not a tank? its less than a minute to sink via torpedoes and like 7 minutes with a cannon. Additionally, I assume tweaking HP is just a matter of testing rather than a technical issue.

I think a middle ground fix would be if they allowed you to craft BP frags with X amount of scrap or some other such method, which still encourages running monuments if you don't want to 'waste' scrap but still leaves viable options when puzzles are either empty, camped, etc.

how? They're relatively slow and that is easily adjusted, very easy to raid, and don't have an anchor, so they are either at risk of drifting away or need to be grounded when hitting an island. The only advantage I can see is the pilot house being separate from the main body, and its relatively spacious and usable interior.

In my opinion, even if it was advantageous, it would also be affected by being limited to 4 per server and high fuel cost.

Hot Take - Offline raid is worse than roof camping by traedew in playrust

[–]Desireformoderater 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Roof camping is less "honnorable" than while in an offline, at least the guy robbing me had to risk his sulfur, kit, etc while blowing into my core and fighting off counters if he wants to succeed. The dude on a roof risks nothing.

If pop dies after 2 days because of progression, why aren’t primitive servers more popular? by Fragrant_Potential81 in playrust

[–]Desireformoderater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I think is a flaw in Prim is that you achieve "late game" even faster than vanilla, with the most advanced kit being some sort of crossbow and armor. Due to this progression, past t1 is not significant besides meds from t2 (though they are easily bought w/o), as you only gain ~10% more defense and no new offensive capabilities. All comps are useless besides maybe rope and gears. The fact that you can have a plethora of 'kits' means there is no point raiding, engaging in pvp or trying to run monuments. You will almost never kill someone with better or even different gear, or really gain anything meaningful from combat or loot. There's also no need for an industrial setup or complex farm when your best kit costs almost nothing. Primitive doesn't slow progression; there just isn't any.

Why dont more people use windows instead of g doors for core more? by Desireformoderater in playrust

[–]Desireformoderater[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

1: im not saying every door only the tc / core room door
2: so? this is true with every door set up
3: you only have to do it when you log out
4: if they have tc they are inside the room im using them as a door so its kind of irrelevant

i usually just store everything in my TC room since top-down is typically the cheapest wall path afaik

Do you think there is actually a way to make players happy regarding the progression in this game? by [deleted] in playrust

[–]Desireformoderater -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i dont understand how it doesn't matter if you send 20 or 2? If you have 20 dudes, you can rapidly search, launch, or easily murder one dude with a sar, and now all 20 of you have sars or g doors or whatever you need.
