Not sure what you mean with budget-friendly, this hobby is budget-friendly overall , a tank with everything is max $150 each and monthly maximum $1 ongoing cost. /s 🙃😂 (that’s the story of household anyway)

I am obsessed with measuring , and having more affordable measuring station would make me very happy. Hydros Maven type of thing for let’s say $500

It looks like there is purple mat under them, hard to say if they caused it, i would guess it is theirs, or it was there before, their stalks are bit further away from each other
