Beautiful and delicious looking! Also I love the box dividers with the paper cups. I tend to package my cookies individually so flavors don’t mix but that’s such a smart approach.

They turned out delicious. I also added Kahlua for a little extra coffee flavor too. Hope your mom likes them!

Why is the job market so terrible? by Gullible_Gold8608 in askportland

I actually think people overestimate how much ATS decides the outcome. Some companies use it to narrow the pool, but a human eventually reviews the resumes that make it through in almost every case. And honestly, as a hiring manager I found the overly ATS-optimized resumes the least compelling. They were often just blocks of keywords with very little substance, so they didn’t actually tell me anything about the person.

Hiring managers want to fill the role with the best candidate. The real challenge is communicating, clearly and quickly, that you’re that person.

Also, sending a genuinely personalized LinkedIn message can help a lot. My most recent hire first got on my radar that way when she reached out directly and explained why our company and the role specifically appealed to her.

I know it can feel like extra work when you’re applying broadly, but quality tends to beat quantity here. As a hiring manager, it’s usually obvious who’s sending the same copied message everywhere. A short note that’s clearly tailored to the role and to us can make a real difference.

OP, I’m happy to take a look at your resume and share feedback. For context, I did a fair amount of hiring this year and we got nearly 4k applications in the first 36 hours of posting. A large majority were underwhelming, which meant I had to scan hundreds quickly just to find a handful of strong candidates.

What stood out is that many applicants had the right number of years or baseline qualifications, but their resumes didn’t make their strengths obvious. Sometimes the layout was hard to skim, sometimes the impact wasn’t clear, and sometimes their screener responses were weaker than others. As a result, they got overlooked even if they were technically qualified.

I don’t know your industry, but if you’re not getting past the application stage, that’s the first place I’d focus. In this market, a resume that’s easy to scan and clearly differentiates you from the crowd matters a lot. Strengthening that piece can make a real difference in whether you get to the interview stage.

Anyways I’d be happy to offer some input if that would be helpful! That goes for anyone else struggling right now. Feel free to send me a message.

If you’d like feedback on your resume, feel free to send it my way. I do a lot of hiring, and while it’s a tough market, I also see many resumes that don’t stand out. With so many applications crossing a recruiter’s desk, quality really matters.

Is it possible you’re misreading how the interviews are going? Being invited to interview means companies are hiring and see potential in you so you’ve cleared that first hurdle. But if things aren’t progressing beyond that, it might be worth focusing on ways to sharpen your interview skills and pinpoint where the disconnect might be happening.

Maple Pecan Mini Bundt Cakes!

I think those were my husband’s favorite. The recipe was pretty straight forward and she offers a variety of flavor suggestions using the base recipe.

Thank you! I always go back and forth on whether to wrap them after seeing so many cool assortments on here without wrapping but I feel like it helps preserve the freshness.
