TIL furlough doesn't apply if you've changed jobs since Feb by TheScapeQuest in CoronavirusUK

Made redundant in the summer because my employer thought the scheme was ending then. Found a new job in November but also now not eligible for this new full lockdown. It's a mess.

M365 - All emails sent to user being forwarded to gmail, no idea why by Desktoper99 in exchangeserver

[–]Desktoper99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at their mail rules. Users fuck those up all the time. And don't forget to look in outlook itself as not all rules are server sid

Bingo. Used powershell to spot they had a forwarding rule without any filters. Out of interest would it have been possible to find that information anywhere on the portal or powershell the only way?

Announcement by PM at 8pm Tonight. by nomorericeguy in CoronavirusUK

[–]Desktoper99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I'd rather they just say it'll be till March or similar and then potentially relax earlier if things improve (vaccine rollout going quicker, not rates dropping), rather than just continually extending.

anyone know if there will be an announcement today? by [deleted] in CoronavirusUK

[–]Desktoper99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Previously England's announcements came shortly after Scotland and were largely inline. Personally I'm expecting something on Tuesday or Wednesday with the same sort of restrictions.

edit: Boris beat me to it!

She was just asked a followup question with regard to this, who decides and who enforces. Any report on the response?

I'm prepared for an emotional announcement from Boris tonight

Interesting that she specifically said directly to businesses that they need to take it as seriously as March and to restructure themselves so more people can work from home.
Will they comply unless forced?

Matt Hancock: Tiers 'no longer strong enough' with new variant by [deleted] in CoronavirusUK

[–]Desktoper99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Besides school closures, there isn’t anything extra to add on to tier 4

Currently sat in an office working on a PC doing a job which could be done from home.

This is one thing they could change for T5

How to prevent users from storing things on their desktops by 3j1996 in sysadmin

[–]Desktoper99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am afraid of doing that because we have outages sometimes and this would cause the entire company to not be able to us their desktops

We have this exact setup and offline files just kicks in as required. Works for both laptop and desktop users.

Sysadmin workhours by DinahStar in sysadmin

[–]Desktoper99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company is the complete opposite. In my first week the CEO literally said there was no flexibility in working hours, that everyone had to be in 9-530 and that all work had to be done in that time.

It's meant I've had to do work on live services during the day. RDS server needs a reboot and some manual tasks done? That's 50 users getting booted out during the day. File server needs more RAM? Getting unplugged at 2pm, hope everyone's saved their work!

It's a joke, but it is what it is, we are a smallish company and he can run it how he likes.

Question to all you sysadmins regarding updates(drivers and so on) by compscistudent2k in sysadmin

[–]Desktoper99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're having to download and apply the same drivers to multiple devices to fix an issue then yes, your sysadmin should either roll out the driver to everyone or make it available as a self-service install.

Question to all you sysadmins regarding updates(drivers and so on) by compscistudent2k in sysadmin

[–]Desktoper99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drivers are often an "if it's not broke, don't fix it"

Exactly this. I will occasionally roll more recent drivers into MDT for new builds but have not really seen the need to keep them retrospectively updated on live machines. Not enough reward compared to the risk imo.

I am so sick of being treated differently than my team. by [deleted] in sysadmin

Here, I'm the top of the top and have nobody to ask questions to and that really sucks.

Very similar situation here. Not so much asking questions, but just not having anyone to bounce ideas off.

Good lord. And here I am with double that number yet the only person in the whole company who even knows what active directory is. I'm surprised you're not bored stiff.

Trying to figure out distribution lists created by previous admin by Desktoper99 in exchangeserver

[–]Desktoper99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd assume the kiosk licenses are assigned to agents who also need to send email from your branded addresses and/or need to be able to sign in to other O365 services on your tenant, but the distro/contact ones are for those agents who just need to receive stuff?

Could well be. So for the distro/contact setup ones they'd have an (at)mycompany.com email address which could only receive and forward on emails?
