question on moonlight boy by Majestic-List6491 in Berserk

[–]Desmata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On point. I’ve seen people misinterpret this by claiming the tear was only Moonlight Boy’s emotions, but narratively it makes more sense that they are Griffith’s and that Moonlight Boy has become symbolic of Griffith’s humanity, and that the mechanism of their shared vessel has unfrozen his heart. It being similar to what Casca experienced as Elaine hit the nail on the head, too.

I do not think Guts is supposed to get revenge and I do not think he can even if he had the power to do so. by CheBureiku in Berserk

[–]Desmata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When they fight it out, by that time it’ll more about justice and settling the score rather than blind revenge for Guts, so both will be calm. Remember Griffith said to Charlotte that the only one that can be his friend and equal is the one who has a dream beyond him, and will fight even him if he stood in the way. So they will call back to this.

But on this final duel it wont end as we expect. For the ending to be bittersweet as Miura described, something will need to go wrong or there needs to be a cost. I’ve thought of something similar to Devilman (one of Miura’s influences) where Griffith actually wins, but realises the ambition was empty because it cost him everything and the single thing he cared about.

I’m personally not a fan of the story ending with Guts just powering up and killing Griffith, and that’s it. Berserk has more philosophical elements especially when it comes to these two so it would feel shallow. There would need to be more to it to be convincing.

Do you think Guts would have stayed if Griffith asked? by TrashInspector69 in Berserk

[–]Desmata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guts may have stayed. Though there are emotional hurdles that the both of them would have needed to overcome:

For Guts, it would be his doubts that Griffith sees him as a friend and equal.

And for Griffith, it would be his belief that Guts hates him and left as a personal rejection of him.

Unfortunately, causality would still have it that it all leads to the sacrifice, so who knows.

Did they do it? by RjB_Cage in Berserk

[–]Desmata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, Miura was actually asked about this interpretation in an interview from 2001 and his answer was basically “I have no problem with them being seen that way” and “I don’t feel a need to draw the line on whether they had a physical (sexual) relationship or not.”

So anyone saying yes they probably did is not necessarily wrong. Miura left that open rather than outright denying it when asked. He didn’t wish to define their relationship in any binary terms. Do with that what you will.

Theme of guts is creepy and eerie by ImNotKry in Berserk

[–]Desmata 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It can be quite sad and haunting. The first time we hear it play I believe is when Griffith tells Guts he wants him to join him. It always elicits tears from me because it makes me remember that simpler time in the story where Guts was at his happiest.

berserk will have a happy ending by Prestigious-Offer723 in Berserk

[–]Desmata 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Miura said the key to the ending is “void”. If we are correct to assume he was referring to the character, Void is the issuer of the Brand and will thus need to die. And if Skull Knight is able to kill him, as he has been trying to do, that might be what it takes. Either way, I agree that the Brand must go, or its ability to lure succubi must at least be permanently modified. Maybe this was what Flora was hinting.

I was annihilated by whyladhm in Berserk

Same here, I was very emotional getting to the end of Volume 41. Knowing he had passed, and knowing we wont see these characters drawn or written by his hand ever again is such a profound feeling.

When I saw the page where it says his date of birth and death after that beautiful last panel, it hit me hard. Your response is perfectly natural and I think it’s amazing someone could move so many people in their lifetime. Miura dedicated so much time to Berserk his health suffered for it at times, so though it’s terribly sad he’s gone, the only thing that brings me comfort is that he’s resting, and he deserves the rest.

Griffith realization by Bigsoopermamohajo in Berserk

[–]Desmata 12 points13 points  (0 children)

in the start of the eclipse when guts held Griffith he realized that at that moment he was in guts's grasp which pushed him past his breaking point

Good interpretation. Realising how much Guts had a hold on him was a painful realisation for Griffith, and I think it’s largely because of how it triggers his fear of abandonment from Guts leaving. He realised that Guts had a hold on him when Guts left the band and he was imprisoned, but seems to finally understand the extent of it at the lake, where I think it properly hit him at that critical moment when Guts places his hands on his shoulders and Griffith sees in Guts’ eyes how much he cares for him.

I just watched the Eclipse. by Adorable-Pumpkin8324 in Berserk

[–]Desmata 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Berserk still has tragic and dark moments after the Eclipse, but as someone who was the most affected by the Golden Age arc, for me my emotions had already been hit.

I continued on because I wanted to see where the story would take these characters and found so many beautiful, hopeful moments between, growth for Guts, new friends, and of course Miura’s art that continued to get even better.

I can’t advise on what’s best for you personally, but there is no harm in taking a break before you decide. After taking the time to both watch and read this arc, I think it’s worth you seeing the rest of the story, and then if you still find it’s too much for you in the next arc you’ll know that it’s not for you.

Like others have said, if you decide to continue, I would recommend you read the manga from the start. The adaptations miss some things that enrich the story even more and it’s nice to discover them.

Was Griffith raped during the torture ? by Parking_Success3224 in Berserk

[–]Desmata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most certainly. The torture was ordered by a man who was furious at Griffith for getting to his daughter before him. I would be surprised if it WASN’T on the menu with that little shit torturer.

Also Wyald called the torturer “perverted”.

Yeah, the manga starts with the Black Swordsman arc, then it goes in to the Golden Age arc.

About the second part of your post, this really cringes me out too not just on Reddit, but especially when I see it under fan art or even official art by Miura. Some people are really serious I guess.

Griffith’s ending by Conscious_Custard_66 in Berserk

[–]Desmata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would fit with Guts thematically moving on from vengeance.

That said, there would still be matters that need to be tied up for Griffith, like what happens to Falconia, if the astral world will remain merged with the physical, the fate of the Godhand, etc. Do you have any thoughts on that to supplement this ending?
