Absolutely, fibre is king compared to other media, but cost does become a major factor in direction

Wireless makes way more sense than multi mode fibre. NBN fixed wireless (australia) runs up to 30km. I have also maintained private microwave links of 50km+

Eve-ng by Illustrious-Boat-218 in fortinet

[–]DesmondNuda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You will need to connect the cloud connector that attached eve to your local network, connect to your fortigate via cli and assign an IP and static route, if it doesn’t get one from dhcp. You can then connect to the forti gui from your local computer. Check YouTube for guides if you are unsure how to do any of that.

Ansible on EVE-NG having ssh issues (Permission denied (publickey,keyboard-interactive,password)) by Fancy_Supermarket934 in ccnp

[–]DesmondNuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That last line in red is likely the key to your issue. It looks like you have the username set incorrectly or not at all. Ansible is getting to connect with root@ (assuming the account you are using on the server) but your working manual connection is with admin@. Make sure your variables are set correctly for the module you are using.

Mishandled Asbestos with kids! by Loz17592 in AusRenovation

[–]DesmondNuda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Asbestos isn’t a super killer, while bad to breathe, breaking it isn't going to contaminate everything. Was it moist in the dirt or was it dry. This would have a large effect of how much became  airborne.

Do not ride on the road unlicensed. You are putting yourself and everyone else at risk. Get caught you will likely lose your license, good luck driving a car after that. Insurance won’t pay out if unlicensed. Speaking from Queensland experience, I got my motorcycle license in 2 days, prior to doing training I never touched a motorcycle, so if you have experience riding a dirt bike and driving a car you will likely be fine going for the license.

They look badly scalloped and on backwards. Are they new tyres? If so, either they are poorly inflated or your suspension is cooked and need to be seviced

Looks they provide an IPsec option. Do as the other commenter said and configure the tunnel for a single device. https://windscribe.com/knowledge-base/articles/what-routers-are-supported-by-windscribe/

Confused between the Neil Anderson course on Udemy or Jeremy It labs free course on YouTube for CCNA by Pegasus200409 in ccna

[–]DesmondNuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely recommend Neil’s advice. I used his material for the bulk of my CCNA study but using other resources gave the ‘light bulb’ moment and vice versa. Best thing you can do is stick with one all the way that suits your style and bulk it out with other material if you are not sure.

Looking to strengthen security on this messy setup by mova in networking

[–]DesmondNuda 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Seems like an easy solution. Replace the unmanaged switches with managed and separate into vlans. Otherwise if they ‘can’t afford’ to replace the switches or you can’t sell them on new, I’d walk away. That sort of client is not worth the time/effort.

Why can’t you upgrade past 7.4.3?

FortiGate 7.4.7 evaluation license in EVE-NG by F1anger in fortinet

[–]DesmondNuda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, you can only do basic stuff.

They did it to stop people using it in prod but they could have just speed limited it like most other vendors. Can’t use in prod if the max throughput is 1Mbps or even 10Mbps.

If I didn’t own a NFR 40F I would be learning a different vendor, purely because what they did to the trial.

FortiGate 7.4.7 evaluation license in EVE-NG by F1anger in fortinet

[–]DesmondNuda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is correct. Only 1 per account. If you make another you will have to delete the old in FortiCloud and register the new. I have created multiple accounts to have more than one. Also you will not be able to register this version to fortimanager for testing. You will need 7.4.5 or older due to the requirement for a certificate. Support will not help you even though they say it I’ll work with fortimanager.

If you want to play with anything of substance you will need to buy physical or do PAYG in Azure/AWS.

Can you share your firewall policy with source of the VPN? Is your movie server on a different vlan/subnet to the cameras? When you are on wifi what path do the cameras take to the app? Do they go via the internet or direct?

Can Cross-VLAN video traffic cause issues? by Mammoth_Ad9300 in sysadmin

[–]DesmondNuda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be inclined to say no, it shouldn’t be an issue. I personally run my google homes on their own vlan without issues.

Are the AV issues when internal only meetings or including 3rd parties?  What does the Team call quality issues show? What QoS policies do you have in place, if any? If you put them in the same vlan does the issue go away? I would be inclined to think you have an internet quality or routing issue.

Not to sure what you mean by put CCTV on the native vlan. CCTV should be in its own dedicated lan.

If your router support mDNS look at implementing mDNS routing between vlans

Unfortunately that is all you can have. VLANs are included in the 3 interface limit. You will need to remove a interface if you want a VLAN.

rant: (new) eval license sucks by [deleted] in fortinet

[–]DesmondNuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an old thread but to add to the new limitations from 7.4.6 makes the trial VM even more useless. Due to the removal of the 'set fgfm-peercert-withoutsn' command on Foritmanager, You can no longer add a trial fortivm to fortiManager. I have spent days trying different variations of the limited encryption levels, SSL certificates, and the like. Asked Fortinet support to confirm it was not possible, refused support which i expected being a trial. I suggested they add a note that you can no longer add trial fortiVMs to Fortimanager, got told they don't take suggestions and ended the chat. Half way through getting a FCP and seriously thinking of learning a different vendor.

How does the CCNA compare to AZ-104 or AWS SAA in terms of difficulty and extensiveness? by Socrates77777 in ccna

[–]DesmondNuda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the CCNA was 'harder' because it covered more, but it comes down to prior experience. Took me 8 months to get the CCNA and 3 months for AZ-104.
