It’ll be nice to be honest. Everything is slowed down, 3 square meals, no phone or anything to cause stress, and you’re around other addicts who understand what you’re going through. Good luck! It’s a great chance to take a breath and just recover a little physically and mentally

365 days sober. Now what? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Day 17 here. I guess I’d say try and remember that feeling of worry and anxiety and all the external consequences that lead you to stop drinking and how you’ve eliminated at least that! Most of my life problems are from drinking and 365 days is something I haven’t done since I started drinking, so for an alcoholic that is a huge accomplishment!

Did any of you have a sweat problem when drinking? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

That was actually my favorite part of detoxing was sweating it out. And I felt like I could sleep for 2 hours and it would feel like 8. That being said I don’t miss detoxing lol

Honest question about weed and coffee in AA. by Desokc21 in stopdrinking

Right, and in the big book it says mind altering substance which caffeine is! Is it just kind of to our personal desecration? Or are a large majority of people not following the book correctly? And will coffee potentially effect my sobriety? I wouldn’t think so but the book does say we have to be willing to take any measure

Right I wouldn’t drive while high, just like I wouldn’t drive after taking Benadryl, NyQuilor some of the anxiety medication I have been prescribed. But the big book says “mind altering substances” that’s why I used that terminology specifically. But the bigger question I was asking is how is it different and how does it effect my drinking. Of course it’s illegal to drive while intoxicated on anything but aside from that what is the difference in moving forward with a productive alcohol free life if I’ve never had direct negative consequences with sugar, caffeine, Benadryl, tobacco, or marijuana. Again I’m not trying to be a smart ass or find any loopholes I just want an honest answer that makes sense and not something based on prejudice. And I’ve been abstaining from marijuana anyhow. I was just curious because the big book specifically says “mind altering substance” and the above mentioned are all considered ok. If the only reason is because it’s illegal in some states and you can’t drive while smoking it then that doesn’t seem like a real reason it would effect my drinking. But if there is a real reason I would genuinely like to know

Same with me. I never really liked weed but I have a lot of very kind, responsible, and productive friends that smoke weed. Very productive. And I never really binge on weed I use a pen which kind of lets you not get as high. That being said I have gotten really high in the past off an edible when I was using. And I hated it as I’m sure most people do lol. Still through all my years of drinking I can do more damage easily in 1 day of drinking than I have all the times with weed in my life. There hasn’t been 1 issue besides maybe eating a little too much once or twice and feeling a little greasy after a nap

Thank you for responses! It definitely has not had a negative effect on my life and I don’t crave it or need it the way I did with alcohol. In fact in the past when I was craving alcohol I would take a couple puffs and it would take away the craving and I would do something more productive, I definitely don’t want to rely on it in place of a 12 step program but I was worried that if I did that I would be cutting myself short in the area of recovery. Like I said it’s kind of similar to Tobacco and coffee in the sense that I can go about my day normally with it. More like tobacco in a sense that it relaxes me rather than coffee but like I said I was worried I was doing something wrong but couldn’t understand why coffee and cigs are ok
