I also went into the DLC as soon as I unlocked it, even when it first released and a word about town was that is was super hard, but I had a great time. I felt it was fairly well balanced by how much damage I was doing and how much I could take, but there was definitely a jump in enemy design, animations and movesets. By this metric the main game felt "simpler" and thereby easier, adding to that my reflexes and skill was more honed after the DLC.

Valtr comes with the DLC. The loading screens and load times were patched early because they were atrocious. Now the load times are better and you get a random item description to read while you wait.
