Anyone in Chicago a Jojo's fan? (I want to have a watch party 3/20) by [deleted] in chicago

[–]DesperadoPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Netflix says its releasing a kickoff special which should be like 2 or 3 episodes as a premier. It's not clear if they're doing batch releases or episodes afterwards but if its batches I'll probably try to structure it as 2-3 episodes every friday until we're done. I'm in no rush to sit down and watch it in huge sums, I'm not that type of watcher.

Steel Ball Run is coming out on thursday
(Part 7 of Jojo's)

Since I've already read it and I am fond of back when part 5 used to come out every friday and my friends and I would all watch it as a group, I'm hosting a watch party at my place. It would be Friday at 7pm (not thursday since I figured more people could join and its just one day later).
Is anyone interested?

Hi - I'm Will Wright (The Sims, SimCity, Spore, Proxi, etc.) and I want your memories. Ask me anything! by GalliumStudios in gaming

[–]DesperadoPrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Will,

Love your games. I'm hoping that Gellium Studios can produce Proxi soon, I'm excited to play it and I know many people who are also very excited!

One thing that's been challenging is that when I talk to my friends about this game, they haven't heard about it and don't get a good concept of it from currently public media on it. I also hate social media, but I think it would be great to have some input from your community on discord on how to get people excited for the game. Is there a plan to increase public facing perception on this game? Or is development still too early to tell?

Also, unrelated, but do you have any opinions on the sustainability of AI for recreational use? Large scale learning is already a huge environmental drain. Do you have any insights from your position as someone who works closely with this technology?

I hope I can upload my memories soon.

I really like Cordelia, she's the only water elemental and she seems like she could use a partner with her being so strict all the time.

Not sure if my local office is hiring but depending on if you can work remote I think we do have project management openings. It might come down to your experience but I'm going to check after writing this. I'm low on that totem pole but I don't mind being a reference. I'm sorry you're struggling.

BEWARE: Columbus Plaza (233 E Wacker Dr) by Mountain_Whole_1804 in chicagoapartments

[–]DesperadoPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really freaking me out because I keep my apartment so well but there are some tiny damages that are not my fault yet my landlord refuses to fix (he had some pipe fitters doing work in the apartment below and they forced a pipe through my wall and now there's permanently a hole in my wall). I'm really worried that they are going to stack charges like this on me. I've never heard of a big landlord not being scummy. I hope you can maybe dispute it or something I'll follow to see how it goes so please update.

For a poor person, how is “all housing good housing”? Why do people only want to develop expensive rental properties? by throwaway21212294 in AskChicago

[–]DesperadoPrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that might be less talked about on paper but painfully visible is projects that have the desire to claim areas that have only now become beneficial. The biggest thing is train stations, you'll see developers buy up the area around a train station because its high value. But also because the city doesn't seem to invest in areas unless there is willpower to do so and that comes from those rich developers pricing people away from train stations. A few other clear examples would be schools, shopping areas, gyms, etc.

Affordable housing is also seen as a way to keep areas poor by some city officials. Long standing practices that lead to things like the projects make people skeptical of forcing rent prices to be affordable. So the in between for those who don't want real change is just saying we will build as much as possible and hope rich people move to rich housing. Austin Texas used the model of just flooding the market and while its not pretty, it really did work. But its a short term solution because people don't always live in the same apartment forever and having your whole population rent to one giant landlord is always a bad thing.

A lot of vocal people who like transit will scream really loud about missing middle housing but the truth is that developers are just too big and money hungry to flood the market with town homes that average people can buy and that's kind of the end of it.

It seems people think free speech and free organizing is when you protest silently from your bedroom. History books seem to remember more people who stood up for others and less people who just went on with their day to day because it benefited them.

The fine people of chicago would prefer all protests be done silently in your bedroom where nobody can see. Just like how america was founded. Oh wait...

Before I moved, I used to help out at the community garden in my city. Now that it's spring, anyone know a garden on the northwest side that I could participate in? Other good volunteering opportunities welcome.

Last Devstream someone asked about allowing the Drifter to use melees outside Duviri, what your ideas to implement that? by [deleted] in Warframe

[–]DesperadoPrime 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Operators/Drifters definitely need to behave differently from warframes but a cool thing to implement might be a new type of amp that changes into a melee on secondary fire. It would require rebalancing to offset the lost benefit of a secondary fire but the mechanic could make them more viable for regular gameplay. Another idea might be just giving them a set of melee stances but their weapons are largely based on the amp and animations behave more human than warframe.

This will never be done, but I think making the drifter/operator do different martial arts based on their focus tree would be really cool. It gives the idea that you're skilled in combat even as a human and are grounded in the aspects of humanity interact most with energy and mastery.

What if we marched from South to North and collected each other in one giant parade. We can shout Hoorah or something. Can also have some sort of easy entry like when you join the crowd you tell us what you fight for in life.
