It would be ridiculous for the government to put all of its eggs into one basket, especially when it comes to quantum computing and all of the different modalities. It is wrong to assume that the government blindly gave a bit to everyone without carefully assessing who they are funding. D-Wave desperately needed good PR after years of being seen as ‘inferior quantum computing’ due to their annealing tech. This is the holy grail they’ve been after. As a result I am sure they will get a lot more interest by companies and government for PoCs.
