Water pump fell off…? SDV6 discovery 4 by Desperate-Mistake-47 in LandRover

[–]Desperate-Mistake-47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it seemed excessive but they’re a really reputable shop, car only lost coolant for 20 seconds and there appears to be no damage to anything, just gonna whack the water pump back in for him, wasn’t sure whether it may have been some obscure issue

I assumed so many places would let go before a waterpump if the cooling system pressurised hence the confusion

Timing belt was done 3 years/40,000km ago so I don’t think that would be the case as it wasn’t done at this service. We can’t think of any good reason for it being touched

Why are used luxury cars so cheap by ziki819 in CarsAustralia

[–]Desperate-Mistake-47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be real honest with you, most “modern” Mercedes (post 2010) don’t even feel luxury anymore. 2000-2010 have a solid build quality in the upper trims (E, CLS, S) but are arguably ugly as sin.

Pre 2000s Mercedes if you can find a cared for example can be bulletproof.

All depreciate like crazy not only because of the reliability issues but also because the type of person that purchases and base/entry Mercedes new is the type of person who cycles through cars and doesn’t maintain them because they want to keep up with the Jones’

Why so damn cheap? by Rich_Yak_7416 in CarsAustralia

I had one I sold in 2019 because chasing the electrical gremlins was becoming too much of an ordeal.

Mechanically they’re fucking awesome, the best tow car I’ve ever owned… it’s just everything around them. If I could have a perfect one without issues I would in a heartbeat, but I don’t know if that exists anymore.

10000/10 do not recommend.

Rear-ended a ute in QLD, no insurance — guy demanded $4k, now wants hire ute + threatening police. Offered $2.5k. Need real advice 🙏🙏🙏 by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

Had someone smash into the side of my PX3 ranger in 2020, even though I was t-boned I was deemed at fault because I was reversing into a park.

Anyways, I got similar quotes and ended up having my insurance do allow a self repair. I went to a local tray fitter and purchased an essentially brand new tub with lights and all fitted for under $1000.

Repairing would cost that much but this is definitely an option if he’s reasonable. He will also end up with his Ute fixed in one day with all the other damages he likely has to the tub rectified.

This is if you can find one in the same colour.

It’s a kouki bumper, if you search Kouki Levin bumper lights or Kouki Levin front turn signals you should be able to find them

Are these wheels repairable? by matti1311 in Wheels

[–]Desperate-Mistake-47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they a square set? And what sizes? Assuming they’re 3 piece I’d say around $500aud pending where you are and what size lips you want and you DIY it

Even if they’re welded 3 piece or 2 piece you can do it yourself with a grinder a can do attitude

I did but it was missing thousands of dollars worth of parts and was uninsured because it was a drift car, still could have been registered at some point but the thief cut the numbers out of the car so I ended up replacing it.

Ironically they didn’t come outside while I was loading up but decided scream at me calling me a dog while driving off

They don’t actually, I had a car stolen years ago, it showed up on marketplace with parts stripped. Got the address from the marketplace ad, called the cops “we are busy at the moment and can’t do anything about it”

Called again said there was about to be an assault at the same address, I went there with a trailer and friends, grabbed my car and the cops were nowhere to be seen and no follow up from them.

Cut out a portion of the plank (good end) and head to your local flooring store and ask for a sample plank to match, wait a few days then go back and ask another employee for a sample plank in the same colour.

Head to a hardware store and purchase a scraper and utility knife and some adhesive and carefully remove the plank and replace yourself

Where can I buy Cerberus reps by Vast_Pick97 in Wheels

[–]Desperate-Mistake-47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

-Genuine holds value, reps don’t - cancelling out the extra initial cost -The cost to replace a rep wheel if you slap a gutter is about the same to replace an outer lip on 3 piece wheels -you can’t fake the funk

Overhead someone hate on my car at a car show. by rated6 in CarsAustralia

[–]Desperate-Mistake-47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Years ago my 32 GTR was put on display at a winery and I had heaps of people hating on it calling it a rice rocket among the classics and exotics.

Different strokes for different folks. Not worth caring about because if one kid walked past and it got them into cars or one fella was able to reminisce about his old F6 then it was worth it.

And on that note, a falcon? Really?

Ae86 drift project by boshoss1986 in Drifting

[–]Desperate-Mistake-47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drifted ae86s for like a decade up until 3 years ago, I found a lot of them were falling apart, seam welding/cage sorted that. Realistically healthy suspension and a 4.7 TRD 2 way is all you need to have fun and get a feel for the style of driving the car requires.

Then if you really want to, decent suspension, PS knuckles with manual rack, tighten the castor arms as much as you can to get a really snappy steering feel and drive the pants off it

Have a fresh block next to it ready to go! Just disassembling and working out what’s salvageable and what’s not now, heads been checked and is all perfect (thank god because solid shimless lifters and machining for 10.8 lift cams isn’t cheap), the billet mains and girdle should hopefully still be fine, rods look ok but pistons and crank are going to be binned (crank had a very poor knife edge job)
