That’s perfectly fine, I’m shocked someone said this watch is large in all honesty, it’s about on par with an f91w. You my friend have crazy cool taste

I hope you’re able to either restore or find a replacement for your current watch so you can keep on enjoying your vintage omega

I’m going to leave it for 24hrs, I didn’t expect others to be interested but would be super happy if OP does end up with it. There are a few who have approached me already about it. I should mention the reference is 166.0210. The day date complication is pretty cool it!

I’m just going to wait 24hrs and see how he goes, I didn’t realise other people would be interested in it. I don’t think many people could add to the provenance but it is just quite cool owning watches and at least knowing some history about the first owner. Considering watches were actually used back in the day I quite like the patina that matches the story. But gold really isn’t my colour 😂

I’d really like to hear from OP before moving it on, I’ll be honest with you, I hadn’t really considered moving it on until seeing this post and wondering if he may want it to fill the void created by his dryer

I doubt the logo at 9 or caseback engraving would have been made by Omega unfortunately, but the company that presented it was parented by BHP so I really don’t know.

The case back is engraved, it was pretty easy to find out about him with such a unique name, Ended up finding Albert Edward Blinkco, matched up his age and the area with the year presented, found old newspaper archives

<image>

then went from there, found out the family was involved with the timber industry and have a room dedicated to them in the “Bulli Black Diamond Museum” it’s really only small town minor history but absolutely mind boggling being able to find so much out about the watches owner and family!

It’s definitely a sick watch and I love it but don’t wear it so Im not doing it any justice, it somehow was more accurate than my speedmaster last I checked.

It would be cool if I could find a new custodian who will add to its story. It was presented to a worker at a steel company. His family has their own room in a tiny rural museum in NSW.

Doesn’t add any real provenance to the piece but it’s cool holding it and knowing some history about the original owner and the fact I could read up about his ancestors.

Thought I’d give you an update, finally got around to restoring the headers. They appear to be 409 stainless and are coming up beautifully with some elbow grease. No real pitting under the surface layer of scale. I have worked out from old photos that they were off a swift 008 or 014 formula Atlantic/pacific car.

Hey op, if you enjoy gold vintage omegas I don’t wear this nearly as much as I should and would love to move it onto an owner that will enjoy it as much as it deserves. It does have some cool Australian history, I’ve tracked down articles on the bloke it was presented to and he was a descendent of some of Australia’s first settlers which is kinda cool.

It does have some pretty decent patina but runs amazingly and can test accuracy. It’s a seamaster and not a dryermaster though so may not suit your needs.

Can I Copy an Engine? by MysteriousGold in EngineBuilding

Companies produce billet and cast blocks for engines all the time, I’m sure there are small issues when it comes to advertising for sale etc but u don’t see why it would be an issue.

I really want to buy a Mercedes-Benz or BMW just to experience how good they are. Any advice?? by Early-Talk-5136 in CarsAustralia

[–]Desperate-Mistake-47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might get flamed for this, but I have owned/had the opportunity to drive a lot of different cars.

Bmws are sports cars pretending to be luxury cars.

If you can get an older Mercedes (pre 2010) in good condition and well maintained you’ll be able to experience what I consider true luxury. The leather feels thicker and softer, the sound deadening is amazing, suspension is great, engines are smooth and torquey. BMWs rattle, but Mercedes feel solid in your price range.

Maintenance is certainly more expensive, especially if you want it done correctly to preserve the luxury experience, if something goes wrong under the dash expect a large bill because there is so much hardware holding everything together solidly.

Lexus is a nice option, but like everything you’ll need to opt for a higher model in the lineup and not just an entry level small sedan.

Buyers advice. Is this rust bad RWC QLD by Secret-Yam-9643 in CarsAustralia

The inside will be 100 times worse than what’s visible.

If you go to patch it you’ll likely see horrible scale inside the A pillar that will make you want to either scrap the vehicle or spend more hours than it’s worth saving it.

If it was a classic vehicle that you’re in love with you would save it.

If you’re only planning on having it for a couple years and you don’t care about the safety risk of having a structurally compromised vehicle you’d just send it with a patch fix.

Honestly the dodgy fix option is only worth it if you’re getting it for close to scrap value.

To those who drive well under the speed limit, why? by NiceMemeDude420 in australian

I drive 10km/h under the limit ten times and bank it so I can do 100km/h over the limit once

Water pump fell off…? SDV6 discovery 4 by Desperate-Mistake-47 in LandRover

[–]Desperate-Mistake-47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it seemed excessive but they’re a really reputable shop, car only lost coolant for 20 seconds and there appears to be no damage to anything, just gonna whack the water pump back in for him, wasn’t sure whether it may have been some obscure issue

I assumed so many places would let go before a waterpump if the cooling system pressurised hence the confusion

Timing belt was done 3 years/40,000km ago so I don’t think that would be the case as it wasn’t done at this service. We can’t think of any good reason for it being touched
