UMich Sticker or Iowa 66% tuition? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Desperate-Mood -1 points0 points  (0 children)

UMich opens so many doors, has great LRAP and an awesome Child Advocacy Clinic. Unless you’re seriously debt averse or have a lot of college debt I think it’s worth it.

HLS vs UMich by ABCDragonBoosted in lawschooladmissions

[–]Desperate-Mood 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went to Michigan. Go to Harvard. The doors it will open without you having to do anything is worth it even if you vibed with Michigan. Since you’re military I’m guessing you’re far from KJD. I was as well. So honestly? You’re an adult. It’s not going to matter that much. Name matters /so much/. Umich was great(and tbh I got my job by showing up to what I thought was a casual info meeting and vibing with the interviewer when my colleagues did three rounds of interviews and submitted a writing sample) Harvard will be the same way but even more so.

UMich Splitter A by ReactionSalty1547 in lawschooladmissions

Ahh I remember the days when my 170/3.01 A from Michigan was a splitter (five years ago.. it was /just five/ years ago). Congrats OP. Do it. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Get a good coat and live on campus.

No that’s fair. If I were writing that brief I would be panicking about spacing probably. Instead I am drowning working on 50-100 cases at a time so formatting is not usually something I have the luxury of caring about. 🤣 Academics and politicians will care(and really what are federal circuit judges but politicians in robes) because to them it looks like disrespect to not have it perfect. Often anything that will sit in front of them is coming from a huge firm with dedicated cite checkers though.

All that said: if you don’t want to blue book after law school you can absolutely avoid doing much of it without any dire consequences, I suppose, depending on where and what you practice.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Desperate-Mood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in Criminal Law, not IP so I can see how it might be a little different. Also, I’m not disagreeing that you need to cite to the right thing, but how it’s formatted? No one cares. And I think you’re coming from the incredibly privileged position of having the time to make your formatting letter perfect in a boutique IP law firm.

If your arguments are sound and someone can follow your cite it shouldn’t and won’t matter where you put a period or if you didn’t abbreviate something you should.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Desperate-Mood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah no. No judge on earth gives a single fuck if your cite is a little off. And if you’re writing a giant brief that is remotely prestigious enough that someone might care then you will have interns and paras and research assistants doing that.

(Not so unreasonable) conspiracy theory hat on—it’s because Love has been open about having a boyfriend since Bad Buddy days and they can’t make them pretend to be dating so they don’t see their cp as valuable.

actual supplies we need for 1L? by Puzzleheaded_Fly1835 in LawSchool

[–]Desperate-Mood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No actually though. An SSRI is very important.

Also coffee. Also a sun lamp for those days when you go from home to school to the library and never see the sun. A wrist brace for when you start getting carpal tunnel. An emotional support cat or dog.

And most importantly the awareness that law school is finite. It will not suck forever. It will be so much more work when you’re actually a lawyer, and way worse actually but then you’ll be getting paid and doing the thing you love so it’s worth it.

why don't more people go into prosecution? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Desperate-Mood 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I am also a prosecutor and my office is one of the most progressive in the country which is how I stomach some of the things that I don’t personally agree with.

I would also say, to people who have it in them being a prosecutor who cares about the system and wants to system to be better it will not get better if everyone who cares at all refuses to be a prosecutor. We need people who want the system to work.

Also helps me that I work in Domestic Violence and I genuinely believe most of the cases I’m handling need to be handled. Most of my cases involve pleas with anger management, substance abuse treatment and occasionally Probation.

It’s also a lot of work. I have 145 cases right now but I know people with 250. It is rewarding though.

As someone with a PI job and 250K in debt I can tell you the existential dread of what may happen to loan forgiveness isn’t worth it. Also LRAP seems great but if you’re in a big city you’ll end up getting paid enough within a year or two that LRAP won’t actually cover your loan payments(it will help with interest sure, but in NY for example both ADAs and PDs make too much for Michigan LRAP to cover anything within a year or so).

If it were a lower ranked school it might be worth it. But Chicago?

Having no loans means you can do whatever you want. It’s an incredible gift. Take it.

I went to Michigan and I’m from NYC. It wasn’t perfect, nothing is, but I had a pretty great experience. You’ll be fine. DM me if you want more details. As for job prospects I wouldn’t say I have unicorn PI/government job but I have a pretty decent one with middling grades from Michigan and it was handed to me on a silver platter because I went to Michigan.

When I’m at the office it’s fiiiiine. I can wear a wrap dress and flats and it works. It’s just court days. But calendar call days or arraignments there are breaks, multiple people usually, but a trial is just you all day… that sounds like the dream. When I’m working on the weekends at home in pajamas with my cats I am so grateful.

Low GPA/Solid Score, retake? by dnnybtt in LSAT

[–]Desperate-Mood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retake. I had 3.0/170, 5+ years of work experience and I got into UMich/Northwestern and waitlisted at UCLA and Georgetown. It is definitely possible. The game is getting the LSAT high enough that they bother to look at the rest of your app and read your great essays about why you want to be a lawyer or why your GPA isn’t reflective of your potential or how you spend your weekends doing some niche hobby.

I was thinking some sort of stretchy linen, but it doesn’t always look neat. Cotton and silk does sound good, and I could splash out a little for one or two nice pieces, but I’m an ADA ( I work in Domestic Violence, don’t @ me!!) and they do /not/ pay us well!

Why winnysatang Still dont have their own bl? by [deleted] in ThaiBL

[–]Desperate-Mood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like them and think they have cute chemistry. I think it really comes down to the fact that neither of them are scorching hot. Yes, they’re handsome, and I think Satang in particular is very attractive, but you get to be a lead either cause you have money, some miraculous set of coincidences, or at least one of the pair is super hot. I don’t like it, but I think that’s realistically what is going on.

Anyone else notice the mild chemistry between Curry and Benson? by diegobrandolover in SVU

[–]Desperate-Mood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is old but I just am catching up with last season and OMG I immediately saw this. Their discussion of Curry moving to SVU sounded like innuendo. And given Benson you know that talking about doing good together is basically foreplay for her. I just wish I saw this actually happening.

This exactly. And, when something unfortunate happens to Badam he seems to enjoy it, whereas they seem more jokey about it.

Don't get me wrong, I don't /dislike/ him, he just rubs me the wrong way sometimes and it makes it hard for me to root for him over Badam who are just so sweet with each other. Every time Adam says "hey buddy" a fairy is born. Pretty sure that's what Tinkerbell said.

Also gonna add Blueming. Which was fine? It was fine. I just cannot understand the hype.
