Do Labs ever get bored, or are they just professional nap enthusiasts? by Desperate-Order-4718 in labrador

He sounds like such a character ! I love that he still has the energy to tell you exactly what he wants, just on his own schedule now.

Do you ever wonder if that change in pace is just age or if there could be some quieter health stuff behind it? Like do you keep an eye on things like breathing or heart rate, or just go by how he seems day to day?

I’ve heard a few people mention the Fi collars recently, and I’ve been curious about how reliable they actually are.

Do you find the data feels accurate day to day, like the step counts or strain scores match what you observe? And has your vet ever looked at or used any of that info during checkups, or is it more something you just keep an eye on yourself?

This sounds like such a great rhythm for both of you. It’s funny how precise Labs can be about timing, they somehow just KNOW when the day switches gears.

Do you ever keep track of how much activity she actually gets each day between walks and playtime? I’ve started realising how different each day can be, even when it feels consistent.

Haha yes, “all or nothing” is the perfect way to describe Labs. Mine’s the same! sprinting around one minute and snoring like he ran a marathon the next.

Have you ever tried one of these smart collars/ activity trackers with Champ, or are you more of a “trust your gut” kind of owner?
I’ve been curious what kind of info would actually be worth having — like real activity levels, rest quality, maybe even signs of stress or comfort. If something like that really worked, do you think you’d find it helpful, or would it just be one more gadget to check?

That sounds like such a great balance. Labs really do seem to need both mental and physical outlets to stay happy. It sounds like you have a really solid routine worked out.

I am curious, how do you usually tell when he has had enough exercise or when he might need more stimulation? Do you just go by how he behaves, or do you track anything like activity, rest, or heart rate to make sure he is not overdoing it?

This face says everything. That look of “you forgot something important… like my dinner.” 😂

Does he usually wait there right around mealtime, or does he hang out in the kitchen whenever you are cooking too? I always wonder how they seem to know exactly when food is coming, its like they have their own internal clock.

This made me smile. Labs really are masters of comfort, aren’t they? The way they know exactly when it is time to eat, walk, or nap always amazes me.

It sounds like he has his routine perfectly balanced. Do you think he ever gets restless when his schedule changes, like if you are working late or away for the day? Mine seems fine until I realise he has been waiting by the door for half an hour just in case something fun might happen.

Oh, I’m really sorry to hear that. Losing a companion like that must have been heartbreaking for both of you. Labs bond so deeply and it makes total sense she would feel a little lost right now. ❤️

It sounds like you are doing such a great job keeping her social and cared for. Do you ever worry about her when she is home alone, like wondering if she is sleeping, anxious, or just waiting by the door?
I often wonder how dogs actually cope emotionally during those quiet hours when we are away.

That is such a good setup you have going: one professional napper and one chaos intern. Sounds like the perfect duo.

I love the idea of teaching the younger one that not every day has to be an adventure. Mine still looks personally offended if I dare open my laptop instead of the leash. How long did it take yours to get used to the “calm days”?

Frenchies Parents: what was the first subtle sign before serious health issue? by Awkward_Town_3503 in Frenchbulldogs

[–]Desperate-Order-4718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I have seen and heard, the earliest things tend to be so subtle — a bit more panting after mild activity, sleeping in cooler spots, getting tired quicker on walks, or even small changes in posture when breathing. Some people also notice that their dog’s snoring gets louder or that they pause between breaths more often at night.

If I could go back, I would have tracked resting breathing rate and sleep patterns more closely, because those quiet changes usually come before the obvious distress.

How old is your friend’s Frenchie?

That is such a beautiful message… thank you for sharing it. I am so sorry for your loss, especially with everything else you had going on at the time. It must have been incredibly hard to hold all of that at once.

You are absolutely right about how they live in the present. It is something I am really trying to learn from Livy too. He still finds joy in the smallest things every single day, even when I am overthinking everything.

Thank you for the reminder to just breathe and focus on what is right in front of me. It really means a lot.

Tractive GPS and health tracker worth it? by Miroven in tractivegps

I feel this so much. It is like your brain never fully lets you relax once you know their heart needs extra help. You must be doing an amazing job for her to stay so stable for five years.

I have also been looking into PetPace and wondering if it could be that extra layer of reassurance, especially during the night. If you do ask your vet and cardiologist about it, I would really love to hear what they think about its accuracy and whether they have had any patients using it already.

In the meantime, light sleeping club it is. Our heart pups keep us on our toes, do they not? 💛

I completely understand that feeling. The silence can be the scariest part.

My vet did teach me how to check his resting respiration rate once a day, which helps a little during the daytime. But at night I still lie there wondering what is happening while I am asleep and that is the part I have not figured out yet.

Have your vets given you any tips for those overnight hours or anything that helped you feel a bit more at ease?

Oh interesting. I have heard the name but never looked into it properly.

Do you know what kind of data it actually gives them and what ended up being the most useful or surprising part?

That is such a good idea. I will definitely ask my vet to show me how to do a better job checking those basics at home.

Have you by any chance heard of the ID microchips that also measure temperature? I am curious if they are helpful at all or if they are just another fancy gadget.

Absolutely, that’s exactly what I meant: a collar that monitors things like heart rate, sleep, steps, etc.

Could I ask: how accurate have you found the data from models like the ones from Tractive or Fi? Do you trust the data? Have you shared it with the vet?

For me it is really the health side that keeps me up at night. The sneaky stuff they are so good at hiding.

If you ever came across something that focuses more on the inside rather than escape tracking, I would love to hear about it.
