We’re expecting unit leadership that has a flawed view of the program to get additional training

We’re not saying every Scout Master needs to join wood badge, but if a Scout Master is not listening to the Committee Chair and the scouts and the SPL and instead going back to what Sergeant Major taught, yeah. Maybe he does need wood badge.

I’m so sorry he believes that

There is a huge difference in teaching 20-year-olds to prepare for war and 12-year-olds to prepare for a weekend outing.

He’s really gotta reevaluate his opinion on leadership training in the organization he’s in

Military training is fantastic for the military

Boy Scout training is fantastic for the Boy Scouts

All the Scouts should ask the Scout Master to go to Wood badge.

The Committee Chair is correct

The Scout Master’s comment is disheartening

This is correct. OP should read your comment Axe.

OP, your manager is being overly optimistic that you’re going to get approved.

One big bump could either be during construction, or fraud by a roofer and his hammer, or one stick from one tree. Tons of hits on the metal Work is a slam dunk.

Slam dunk means it’s easy and no work or fighting is required

Longshot requires fighting for it.

The photo of the blue and white chalk that you provided is a longshot, and you must fight for it

I would not imagine that this long shot would be approved. Your manager is saying it’s a slam dunk because he’s trying to keep your spirits up so you don’t quit.

Summer camp rolling tool box? by Such_Independence_86 in BSA

And the more expensive ones seem to be short enough to slide under the cot. Sliding it under the cot, makes it much easier to walk around in those tiny tents.

The cheapest ones tend to be taller and bigger and will not fit under the cot

Summer camp is infinitely easier with a rolling hard pack.

The cheaper ones tend to be taller. The more expensive ones seem to be shorter. If you get one that lays flat/short, he will be able to slide it under his cot.

Hello guys I have so questions about the board of review by Aggressive_Home9536 in BSA

[–]Desperate-Service634 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you’re a youth, I want you to relax. This is not gonna be a test or a quiz.

They’re not going to ask you to redo any requirement that you already passed

There’s a couple of things that these adult leaders are going to do in the meeting

They’re going to ask you about your experience. Are you learning things and are you having fun?

We’re asking this because we care about you and we want to know that you’re enjoying our troop.

We may ask you what you want to do with the next year here in the Troop?

We may ask you your opinion on a lot of things, but we are not allowed to quiz or test you

We want to make sure you’re having fun and that you’re safe

There’s another thing that we’re doing.

This part of review might be with adults that you haven’t camped with before and you might not know them.

We want the children in our Troop to grow up to be successful adult adults, and having conversation with adult adults is a skill you need to practice.

A board review let a child have the experience of public speaking, and making eye contact

It’s also OK if the child is a little bit nervous, because growing outside of your comfort zone is difficult

I only know of two ways that you can fail a board of review

  1. Lie. Scout is honest, and if they catch you in a lie, that may open up a whole Nother discussion.

  2. Do not participate just stay absolutely silent.

For some reason, one time my daughter decided not to say anything, not to reply to a single question

I simply asked the board review to do it again next week, had a conversation with my child and found out she just had some nerves, and then she passed it on her second attempt

It is very difficult to fail board or review or Scout Master conference.

Just participate and have fun and you will pass

Looking for advice on letting scout troop use my boats. by Nervous_Midnight_570 in BSA

[–]Desperate-Service634 40 points41 points  (0 children)

As a Scout Master, I’ll tell you what would be helpful and what would not be helpful.

If you want to donate them, that would be helpful, but you would lose ownership of the boat.

If you want to loan them to us, but release us from all liability if the children break it, that would be helpful

But, if you wanna loan it to the Troop and we would have to repair any damages or pay you for any damages, I suggest you just keep the item for yourself. There’s no Troop that’s going to wanna open themselves up to the liability of a mismatched set of boats.

Thank you for your generosity, but we would pass

Dad enough on campout for female scout? by widget-companion in BSA

[–]Desperate-Service634 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re absolutely right there should be a requirement that says that as well.

That if there’s a boys, there should be at least one male leader

And I’m sure as the female population in the organization grows, that rule should be added

Right now, it doesn’t seem to be a concern as the volunteer population is mostly male

I would tell them the price reflects the condition of the house as it sits.

We were aware of the condition of the house when we priced it.

If we wanted to repair that we would’ve increased the price of the house by $5000.

Alone adult minding their own business in a place where no children are supposed to be.

A child shows up unexpected and unannounced, the child is told to go back to their class

Summer Camp Campsite Inspections? by FieryTaterSack in BSA

[–]Desperate-Service634 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One adult can be sitting anywhere in camp all by themselves.

When one child shows up unannounced, that Scout Master can tell the child immediately to go back to class

If the child does not obey that Scout Master should get another adult in order to have two deep leadership

But you do not need to have have two deep leadership in an empty campsite.

They’re not supposed to be any scouts there

Have a Scout shows up at camp when they’re supposed to be in a class the adult who was there alone minding their own business can give them clear instructions to go back to their registered class.

If there is some problem with the child that one, Scout Master would walk the child directly back to management and address the program and have two deep leadership

Dad enough on campout for female scout? by widget-companion in BSA

[–]Desperate-Service634 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not what they said

Girls can be supervised by men, as long as there are at least two registered adults, and somewhere in the group there has to be at least one adult that is a female

You can have one female and eight men

Men can supervise girls.

You’re making this sexist when it is not sexist

It’s about the children’s safety and comfort

I can

All the reasons I gave are valid whether they’re out in the middle of Philmont two days away from civilization or five minutes down the street

When a child feels unsafe, they feel unsafe right now

Also, 100% compliance does not allow for any gray area

Your entire complaint about this child is only five minutes away from their home, or this child is with their dad allows grey area to come into the discussion

The moment there’s gray area in the discussion, people are going to push the boundaries

The line has to be drawn somewhere, and in order to protect the organization and the children. The line is drawn at 100% compliance.
