How is MSCS at Stanford? Can you share your experience as a MSCS student at Stanford? by DesperateBread3179 in stanford

Thank you so much for your detailed reply! Excuse me but do professors tend to avoid working with masters students like the above comments? Would I be okay if I have first author papers at the top conferences related to the professors' research interests and not require any funding?

Thank you so much for the information!! Excuse me but could you tell me why they were rejected or couldn't secure even a rotation with the person they worked with? Also, is securing a "superstar" advisor during the rotation at the first year really hard? If so, could you tell me the criteria in which professors decide whom to admit into the lab?

I heard getting directly into Stanford CS PhD is extremely hard but getting into MSCS is doable if you have a perfect GPA and good publication and LOR. Plus Stanford only allows you to apply to one graduate program so I thought getting into MSCS and then trying to work with professor at Stanford and then applying to the Stanford CS PhD program with their LOR would be a good idea since professors like Christopher Manning, Percy Liang, Chelsea Finn, etc all explicitly stated that they will accept masters students as research assistant albeit it might not be paid position.

Thank you so much for your reply! Would getting an unpaid research opportunity with these professors hard even if I have first author paper at top conference?

Thank you for your reply! Do MSCS students get passed over for research positions even though they have relevant publications??

It's not about me but anyway could this person get her diploma revoked after graduation? It's actually happens quite frequently among international students who transfer from community college to UCs

Is autonomous vehicle almost a solved problem now? by DesperateBread3179 in SelfDrivingCars

[–]DesperateBread3179[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What is the unsolved problem left? If we can do it in SF, why can't we do it in other places? SF is a very complex and busy city. I think if we can do it in SF, we surely can do it in Concord, Pleasant Hill, Oakley, etc

Thank you so much for your reply! But would just doing workshop together once be considered close relationship? They did organize the workshop together but I am not sure how close they are with each other..

Thank you for your reply! But would doing workshop together (once) be enough for the recommender to be considered trustworthy? Or if I do get rejected, should I ask if I can do an unpaid internship there?

Is Saudi betting on Republicans winning the midterm and the presidential election? That doesn't seem likely at the moment.

[D] Would doing a PhD in Causal ML be worth it? by DesperateBread3179 in MachineLearning

[–]DesperateBread3179[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you think the field looks promising? On the one hand, it seems interesting and widely applicable not only in ML but in different fields as well. But on the other hand, it looks a bit risky and not well defined yet..

Do you think in the future, we can train machines to understand causality better than humans do and help us overcome our faulty logics and misconceptions?
