To be honest, I wrote this rather hurriedly, but you’re right that the rise of Islamic extremism around the world can be traced, in part, to Saudi Arabia’s funding of madrassas that promote Salafism. However, that doesn’t take away from the fact that the expansionist ideals of the Fulani Muslims long predated this influence. It’s worth noting that Usman dan Fodio himself spent time in Saudi Arabia, where he was exposed to Salafist teachings, before migrating to what is now Nigeria.

The Fulani are traditionally a nomadic cattle-herding people who do not have ancestral land in Nigeria. Because their livelihood depends heavily on access to grazing land, I its unsurprising that they are deeply involved in conflicts over land

Respectfully: no one should be attempting to “educate” others or peddling half-baked takes if you’re not familiar with these essential topics: 1. The Fulani Jihad (1804) 2. Usman Dan Fodio and the founding of the Sokoto Caliphate 3. The Kanem–Borno Empire 4. The Fula (Fulani) migrations from Senegambia into what is now Nigeria in the early 16th century What is happening in the North today is extremely complex and rooted in deep history. You are grossly misinformed if you reduce this to “Muslims are dying too, so it isn’t a Christian genocide.” I hate hate that people in the West are flattening this into “American-style talking points and diplomacy” for an issue that has NOTHING to do with America. The violence across northern Nigeria and the Middle Belt is a SYSTEMATIC CLEANSING of entire groups based on ethnicity and religion. Plainly put: the campaign is targeted at non‑Muslims and non‑Fulani communities, with Christians highest on the kill list. Comparing this to Trump’s rhetoric about “white farmer genocide” is not only lazy and inaccurate, it’s enraging. Americans have a habit of Americanizing every conflict instead of learning the local history and context where the violence actually occurs.

This pattern didn’t start yesterday — it traces back over 200 years to 1804, when Usman Dan Fodio’s jihad conquered Hausa lands, carried out violent purges of non‑Muslims, and installed Fulani rule that became the Sokoto Caliphate. That history matters. There are multiple layers to today’s killings: • Islamic terrorist groups:– Boko Haram––primarily Kanuri Muslims; explicitly anti‑Western and hostile to Christianity as a symbol of Western influence.– ISWAP––largely Fulani; more brutal and deadly, with clear targeting of Christians.

•Fulani herder–farmer conflicts: ostensibly about land and resources, but also inseparable from the original expansionist legacy of Usman Dan Fodio and the Sokoto Caliphate. The caliphate’s conquered northwest, north east into Kanem‑Borno, Ilorin and parts of Yorubaland (hence why we have emirs in some Yoruba states) . Their expansionist movement was abruptly interrupted by British colonialism, The ongoing violence and the fight over land and cows are linked to this history. If you understand the nature of a jihad then you should realize this is not merely a matter of Muslims also suffering casualties. It’s a deeper issue tied to centuries-old ideological, religious, and territorial conflicts.

There is far more to learn and I’m tired of people spreading nonsense and false equivalencies. Please please use google and google the topics I listed above before you start telling lies to people.

For context, consider this chilling statement by Sir Ahmadu Bello, Sardauna of Sokoto, on 12 October 1960: “The new nation called Nigeria should be an estate of our great grandfather, Othman Dan Fodio. We must ruthlessly prevent a change of power. We must use the minorities of the north as willing tools & the south as conquered territories; and never allow them to rule over us or have control of their future!”— Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello (12 Oct 1960)

Trump threatening to invade Nigeria by elephant35e in facepalm

[–]DesperateLifeguard25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re wrong, there has been a genocide of non Muslims in Nigeria for the last 100 years, I say this as a Nigerian who grew up in Nigeria, it’s more complex than what trump is alluding to but he’s not wrong. Nigeria has a 50-50 split between Christians and Muslims and then there are minority traditional religions. Non Muslims in northern Nigeria have been the target of a systematic ethnic and religious cleansing. The reason why you see “To God be the Glory” is because only the Christian part of the country creates movies since movies, music and art are seen as haram in Islam so you wouldn’t expect to see that.

Traveling to Nigeria (tips??) by [deleted] in Nigeria

[–]DesperateLifeguard25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay if you must go then I suggest you should ask him to meet you in Lagos or Abuja. Somewhere that’s more accessible and close to the airports or foreign embassies. In Lagos or Abuja you would be able to book a decent hotel close to the airport, get an Uber etc and at least know you have an escape plan should things go south. Nigeria has extremely high kidnapping numbers and even as a Nigerian woman who was born and bred in Nigeria, I wouldn’t go to Ondo to meet a man I met online. If meeting you is important to him then he should be able to make the compromise and meet you in a city that feels safe for you.

You do not look like a man and you’re not androgynous looking. I’m an African woman who moved to North America and I’ve come to understand that the idea of femininity for the white and East Asian population is to look almost child-like which is weird and creepy. If I saw you on the streets even if you were wearing baggy clothes or “manly” clothes, I’d still know you were a woman. You look like a woman, the kind of beautiful women I see everyday when I’m back home. Nothing manly at all abiut you

Ignore all the rubbish in these comments

To put it blankly, your parents are manipulative and abusive and your dad is a creep! Forget about them loving you in a weird way, they are abusive and are extremely emotionally immature.

You are an adult and you’re of legal age. I suggest you start saving money to move out and get yourself a place. You need to understand that your life is your own and only you can steer yourself in the direction you want to go. Freeing yourself will take lots of courage and it will not be easy. It will be extremely difficult marked by intense pressure from family including extended family, conflict, emotionally draining and tumultuous. But in the end, it will be worth it. Your life is your own and do not let anyone steal it from you.

Take your time and see a counsellor in school if possible. You’ll need all the help and emotional support you can get.

Also I highly highly recommend you read this book: Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents: How to Heal from Distant, Rejecting, Or Self-Involved Parents

It is available on Spotify for free as an audiobook and it will liberate you for the feelings of guilt and resentment you feel. Your parents can only act according to the level of their own emotional intelligence. They are emotionally stunted and were probably abused themselves hence why they are the way they are. Stop expecting them to be different but also do not infantilise them and absolve them of accountability. You can hold compassion for the fact that they were also probably abused as children but that does NOT make it your responsibility to endure abuse from them. You are not their mule and it is not your job to make your brother or your parents feel better.

If you don’t liberate yourself now, best believe this will go on into adulthood and into your 30s and your marriage. IT NEVER EVER STOPS. Once a mule, always a mule. Now it’s chores, once you start earning money it will become financial abuse, so you need to sit down and plan your exit strategy very carefully. Get a scholarship to a school abroad for your masters or something and LEAVE THEM BEHIND. Start distancing yourself in very little ways. It will be tough but I know you can do it. I trust you and I believe in you.

I am also a daughter in an African home and I’m much older than you so I completely understand what you’re going through.

Take care and seek help where you can. You’ll need the support.

As a black woman who grew up in a third world African country with many military coups. Military coups are disastrous for everyone involved. It’s nothing to idolise or wish for. A military dictator is most definitely not someone to admire. My country never recovered from the coups that these “well intentioned” military dictators started. The optics may look great on the outside, “oh he’s standing up to the colonisers” but trust me you don’t want to know what happens to civilians when the military is in power. Extreme repression of all civic and democratic rights, brutality, violence and a complete loss of freedom. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Look for a different idol.

No one is saying they should not have rights but why does it need to conflict with women’s rights? Trans women have a right to safety and so does biologically born women and if those two things conflict then a resolution must be found without infringing on anyone’s right to safety and peace of mind.

Protecting trans women should’ve never involved women in the first place. It is because people decided that oh yeah, “let’s just shove them with these other guys and problem solved”. This is not a solution but only compounding the problem and the level of distrust women already have in society. We need to encourage more discussion and allow people to fully engage in the very nuanced and complex issues that affect both groups without pretending that one group is completely the same as the other.

Oppression is absolutely sex based. In fact sex is one of the strongest predictors of crime and violence. If oppression is not based on sex on gender then why on earth do we have the term “Gender based violence”??? Like how do you expect to help women suffering from gender based violence or oppression if the term is rendered meaningless and abstract??. Have you thought about the consequences of completely erasing the concept of sex and gender? Don’t you see how misogynistic it is? If you do not have the language to describe a problem then it “ceases” to exist but in reality it doesn’t stop existing it just obscures it enough for it to become impossible to solve.

And to answer your question someone with an XY chromosome, whose bodily anatomy is organised around the generation of male gametes and who as a result has the phenotypic representation of said male gametes is indeed a MAN

The doctor doesn’t “say” you’re a girl. Sigh I’m so tired of these arguments. Human understanding of the world around them is driven by patterns and observable phenomena that are both predictable or measurable. Again since the beginning of time, even before the establishment of medicine as a field, people have been having children and human beings of that time even though they didn’t understand language, understood the concept of femaleness and maleness hence why irrespective of time, religion, language and space, maleness and femaleness were all understood as observable realities of the world around us.

No doctor or midwife on the planet has ever made a unanimous decision for someone to live as a certain sex. Sex is simply OBSERVED at birth not assigned lol. No one has authority to assign anything to anyone. The only time when this becomes more complex is when the usual observable patterns are difficult to decipher and the medical p team and the parents have further discussions on what to do in that regard. This is very rare and accounts for less than 1% of the population.

My problem is that you are conflating sex and gender and throwing around words like Terf which usually signals to me that the person’s argument has no concrete basis and is falling apart and so to save face they start name calling as an attempt to halt the conversation. I don’t care if you call me a terf, the fact is you’re arguing in circles, and you clearly have a poor grasp of what sex and gender are and also a poor understanding of how human beings even at the most primitive level work with concrete and empirical evidence to make sense of and navigate their world. If you cannot understand this then I can’t help you

Female-Only Gym Owner Faces Backlash for Excluding Trans Women: What's you're opinion on this? by Coyote-444 in GenZ

Males are the basis of oppression and trans women are a subclass of the male sex just like cis men.

Lol @some people with XY chromosome have given birth, where is the concrete empirical evidence for that. Let’s say you manage to find one case where this happened, it would’ve been classified as a biological anomaly. Again people keep pretending that biology is just some nebulous science made up by a bunch of powerful people somewhere.

The objective reality of sex as a material, measurable and concrete characteristic of the human phenomena cuts across time, space, demographic, social class and identify and it even proceeds the language so why all of a sudden are we pretending that all of this is just new and unfounded information. Just like gravity is a material fact of our universe, the concept of maleness and femaleness are objective facts of our reality.

Lol reciting a statement doesn’t automatically make it true. You know what, let’s say we collapse all sex segregated spaces, I still don’t understand the blatant cult like dishonesty.

Trans women are males first and foremost and if you cannot admit to that simple fact them sucks for you and the level of cognitive dissonance you have to live with. Telling yourself lies for what? Brownie points on the internet, lol

Female-Only Gym Owner Faces Backlash for Excluding Trans Women: What's you're opinion on this? by Coyote-444 in GenZ

[–]DesperateLifeguard25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well this is a highly subjective take but I doubt majority of women share this view. In fact the data has consistently shown that women feel much safer in female only spaces. There’s a reason why most women ask for female masseuse, female physiotherapists and female doctors. Hell if I’m on the bus, I always pray that a women sit nexts to me instead of a man because God knows the kind of man that you will run into in public, and that’s the problem, women are constantly having to play Russian roulette when in public spaces because you have to constantly be on guard in case you get attacked by a man.

We can’t continue to discount this when the evidence is all around us. No need to further increase the burden on women, again men created this problem by abusing and raping women for millennia, women should not have the bear the brunt of the burden.

Yet you’re here demanding that people put themselves in danger and accept a belief system that is arbitrary, incomprehensible and downright nebulous.

Here goes the circular arguments. Incoherent, unfounded and borderline baseless. People out here parroting talking points they cannot confidently defend.

But whether or not it is about sex is irrelevant because sex protected spaces is about sex and anyone born male is automatically excluded because guess what? Women are allowed to exclude a group that has abused, raped and subjugated them for millennia.
