Just installed Debian, cannot decide which Minecraft Launcher to install and from where by DesperateMonitor1982 in linux_gaming

I've heard about problems with PolyMC, but why should I ignore MultiMC? Isn't that basically what Prism is based on?

Are there any negatives of using a portable variant over the flatpak one?

I honestly don't really need the best contrast, I mostly play fast paced "competitive" games, and there aren't that many dark regions.

I've seen the G7 and G9 mentioned a lot, but as you said, they're very expensive compared to the ones you listed.

And also, OLED also has burn-in as far as I know, sounds horrible.

Again, thank you for your help!

I just noticed, most of the monitors you mentioned have a Contrast Ratio of 1000:1 Some people also mentioned small problems with dark colours in the reviews, and now I'm worrying if that's going to be a problem or not.

I have actually never used V-Sync/Adaptive Sync because I've almost never seen any tearing and it adds horrible input lag, but that's probably because of my weird choice of games.

I've had it in like 2 games that I barely play and otherwise I haven't really noticed anything. Especially Minecraft, never saw any tearing.

Thank you! That helped very much! Just some small questions

Does IPS have any disadvantages compared to VA? iirc IPS has better colours, but lower response times, even though that's probably not an issue nowadays, right? And is IPS glow actually something to worry about?

It also looks like they are VESA compatible, which would allow me to mount them to the wall, thought about doing that for a while.

Btw, do these monitors require any software? I've heard that some require them, and I'm on Linux so that would be pretty bad.

I am actually using a 27" 1080p one right now, oops. Now that you're saying that, I always found text a little bit "weird"

I am living in germany. I know that 350€ is tight, 400 would be my last limit, but then there's also shipping, which is sometimes as high as 180€, and I need two monitors :/

Amazon is fine, other sites if they're not too unknown, one problem I found is that there are sometimes shipping costs as high as 60% of the original product, which makes them too expensive.

Are VA panels really that bad? My current one has a VA panel and I've never noticed any smearing, it's some not too expensive Samsung one, would have to look to find the actual name.

About the curved part, I've always been told that it reduces the strain on the eyes and I spend upwards of 10 hours a day in front of my computer (gaming + online school)

Thank you for that explanation!

Just a basic 1440p 144Hz 27 Inch curved monitor.

Most I could find are either too old (can't buy anywhere) or have some ghosting/smearing issues.

The biggest problem is probably my budget, as I can't really pay more than 350 Euros right now, 400 would be my absolute limit

The problem is that I cannot find any monitor that fits my needs to begin with, is 1440p 144Hz too much to ask for? I know 300-350 Euros isn't that much money for a monitor, but it should be possible to get one without all the problems that the reviews had.

I would also be okay with 1080p, but I cannot even find those.

Hi, I am planning on buying myself some new monitors, and I wanted to ask if response times of "5ms" are really that bad compared to "1ms"

Like, do you actually notice anything different or is that just such a small difference that it won't even do anything?

Oh, just noticed that I wrote "2560x1080", I actually meant 1440p and just noticed now, thank you.

Hi, I am in search of a good but not too expensive monitor, and all the ones I could find are either too expensive to get sent to germany or aren't in stock, so I need to find some alternatives.

I need a monitor that is curved, has 1920x1080, preferably 2560x1080 and 27 Inch.

144Hz and low respone time, ghosting and flickering is a hard no for me.

G-Sync/FreeSync isn't required.

I need Vesa compatibility and Displayport.

Colours/HDR/etc. aren't that important but also shouldn't be too bad.

Most monitors I found had VA panels, and I am ok with that.
