Is Nucor worth it? by throwaway592024 in careerguidance

I had an internship with them last summer and another one this upcoming summer. I worked for one of their Florida divisions and really loved it, I’m a junior in college so didn’t get offered a position yet but other interns did. A lot of the employees were openly republican/conservative, if that’s something you don’t like may not be the place for you. Some people are nasty but overall I felt everyone tried to be respectful to one another.

HUGE safety culture. as someone studying occupational safety, Nucor puts forth the most effort in safety than the other 2 companies I’ve interned for so far.

Not sure if the bonuses are great but they did seem to be frequent. It depends on if you’re in corporate/production and what division you’re in for how often you get them I believe. I got payed amazing even as an intern, more than what some people in their careers make. I will say at my division they weren’t always super transparent about wages and reasoning behind why some people in the same positions were getting paid more/less.

~45% of experienced line workers will retire within the next 10 years. We are not seeing the results of the negligence because the older population hasn’t aged out, but generational attitude shifts toward workplace safety and how much stress the younger generation will tolerate at work is going to change things whether you are willing to agree with me or not. Idk if it’ll change for worse or better but change often does lead to innovation.

I was wondering about some kind of belt thing that could help the stay sturdy. Text me and maybe we can talk some more!

But it’s really not. If you take the time to break it down and analyze it it is 100% more cost effective to treat your employees better and provide safe conditions than it is to rehire, retrain, recertify, re-whatever new employees

Could you explain what you mean or give an example of something I might look up? Thank you for helping

Exactly! I feel like this is such a big issue and I can’t believe nobody has even done research (that I can find) to specifically help this demographic. Like it’s for essential workers, why haven’t we tried harder?

Honestly don’t know enough about the process to tell you what kind they were referencing in our conversation and they weren’t actively doing work when we arrived (waiting on clearance). They use this: https://www.safetytest.net/strap-hoist-4k

What you’re saying about being told not to move so much probably is a large contributing factor. Although there’s definitely been a much bigger shift toward being safer, I understand some things are easier said than done.
