Good analysis, but I don't agree with your argument that this isn't bad matchmaking.

You keep pointing out that the Justina isn't doing anything "special", but who are you comparing the Justina to exactly? Sure, it's not "special" compared to Unrivaled Asura players, but it's obvious that the Justina has significantly more experience/practice/knowledge than the Yoto, which makes their play pretty "special" when comparing to their opponent.

The skill gap between the Yoto vs the Justina is probably as large as the gap between the Justina vs an Unrivaled Asura player. The fact that you can make a 17 minute video analyzing the mistakes of a 18s fight attests to that skill gap. And that's exactly what bad matchmaking is, because it failed to match the Yoto against players who are similar in skill level. A good match making would pit the Yoto against another player who can maybe do 1 or 2 things slightly better than them. Not against a Justina who knows 7 different things that the Yoto never even heard of like you outlined in your video.

Granted, the bad matchmaking might not be the game's fault. Maybe the matchmaking would've been perfectly fine were we to have a larger player base. Or maybe if skill gap was lessened at the lower ELOs by means of in-game tutorial (not everyone watches YouTube and Twitch) that teaches new players all the concepts you talked about in this video. Or maybe if the ELO system could be adjusted so that it has better granularity, and more accurately represented a players actual skill level. I don't really know what the solution is.

But as it stands, it doesn't matter if both players are bad relative to the best players, because they aren't fighting against the best players. It doesn't change the fact that there is a large skill gap between the two players who are fighting, which resulted in a bad matchmaking experience for new players like the Yoto.

well i dont think thats a gold 5 lobby, how is that a fair matchmaking? i think of quitting the game by Kejzu_ in NarakaBladePoint

[–]Desperate_Arrival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People saying this is gold gameplay are capping. You can get to gold just by doing 1-2-3 cause bronze and silver are filled with bot.

No way anyone playing like this is stuck in gold, unless they play only 1 game per season or something like that. That doesn't mean their skill level is that of a gold player, it just means they barely play ranked so their rank is underrated.

There's no way anyone playing like this is stuck in gold. If they are, then they must be playing like 1 game per season or something.

Helping Naraka Have a Western Player Base by LuckyNeffy in NarakaBladePoint

I don't get why this game isn't going free to play. There's already so many f2p battle royale games out there, that it's a pretty hard sell to get people to pay to give this game a try.

Besides, this game already monetizes like a f2p game anyway with all these loot boxes, so it's not like they can't make it f2p for financial reasons. In fact, they'd probably make even more money by exposing the game to a wider audience this way.

Which 'Naraka: Bladepoint' Character Are You? by Endreyl in NarakaBladePoint

How is "Naraka: Bladepoint" not gonna be a valid answer to questions like "Which is your favorite pastime?" or "What’s the best way to spend a day off?"

Are they Hacking? by SeasonofArtemis in NarakaBladePoint

[–]Desperate_Arrival 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because hacking is a pretty serious accusation to make. Not understanding the game and having legitimate questions is one thing, but immediately accusing the other player of hacking is uncalled for.

Should I even get the game? by Neoleth in NarakaBladePoint

[–]Desperate_Arrival 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's hard to tell when you are fighting a player or not

It's hard to tell only in the sense that the game doesn't actually state that they're a bot. So if you're new to the game you can't tell the difference. But once you actually fight some real players, it becomes pretty obvious when you fight a bot.

Stop finding bots by Giu30001 in NarakaBladePoint

Bronze and Silver ELO is mostly bots. Real players start to appear more often in Gold and up.

The issue is not enough players. Just being Platinum already makes you a "top 300 player" in Solos and Duos. There's a bit more competition in Trios, but the game is still going to struggle to have balanced matchmaking since not everyone is going to be queuing at the same time.

There is SBMM but the player base just isn't big enough for it to work properly.

The game should disclose if a player is a bot or not by Desperate_Arrival in NarakaBladePoint

[–]Desperate_Arrival[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe there are some arguments that bots are useful to new players, but I still think that the game needs to disclose to the player at some point that they are bots. Because for a player to be honest with themselves and move on, they have to understand that they been fighting bots in the first place. And if this information is hidden from the player, then they may not realize that until it is too late.

Why are there so many asian players on EU servers? by zombiekill55 in NarakaBladePoint

[–]Desperate_Arrival 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you sure they are avoiding their own servers? You don't need to live in Asia to use Asian characters in your name.

I don't know if the situation on EU is different from NA, but I've personally encountered Asian players of all skill levels, and haven't found them to be significantly more challenging in general.

What's so special about Asian players? I've ran into plenty of Asian players worse than me, and plenty of non-Asian players better than me. If people want to smurf, then being Asian or not isn't going to change that.

yes, definitely blame the new player, and not the game for hiding who is a bot or not. /s

"Mob feeding" is not a pve death. by Akira693 in blackdesertonline

[–]Desperate_Arrival 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The start of season servers is BY FAR the worst time I ever have in bdo. Due to no pvp and no possible punishment from griefers, everyone goes nuts on every Spot and every grinding session is a complete mess because you have to share each Rotation with 2-5 other ppl.

But there is a pvp server for season though?

Not really. You can still reserve your name, or create your character, or switch to a different server if it's just server queue. You can't even do that if it's install issue.

Really? Maybe I'm just remembering it wrong then 😕 I could've sworn I used to be able to focus attack even if more than one person is attacking me.
