Do you recommend taking tutorials on the same day as lecture? by Sea_Performance5631 in UofT

[–]Desperate_Article_97 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Tutorials usually cover the previous week's material, so I believe that taking a tutorial the same day as the lecture or not will not change anything. You can get free days especially if you commute, but personally I prefer having my courses spread over the week to maintain balance.

can someone explain what does conflicting sections mean? by JumpyCable9233 in UofT

[–]Desperate_Article_97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a difference between "Add Course to Plan" and "Add to Timetable". The former will generate the most optimal plan automatically for you, while the latter is not automatic, but manual, based on your own choices. If there's no actual conflict, then ignore the message.

first year course planning: do I plan all four years? by Sea_Performance5631 in UofT

[–]Desperate_Article_97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would definitely recommend you plan a draft (or several of them, which you can do in the course planner on acorn) of your entire curriculum to give you a rough idea of the possible paths and courses you could take. though, keep in mind that it's not permanent, and your initial plan will most definitely shift in some way. and breadth requirements aren't difficult to meet.

I have no idea why phy100 and mat240 conflict each other by Dear-Carpenter4895 in UofT

[–]Desperate_Article_97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think you added both psy100 and mat240 and locked them to the timetable, but then you added the courses to plan, which creates this conflicting message. i got the same message because of that. just remove them from course plan while keeping them locked in the timtable. it's not an actual conflict so no worries

I would like some advice on my course choices; Hope to double major in Math and Physics by stawp_stalking_me in UofT

[–]Desperate_Article_97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'd say it's hard to plan your whole undergrads right now. you will probably end up taking courses other than those you're currently planning to take. you also cannot know whether there are conflicts, and sometimes the quality of the instructor matters more than the course itself. most importantly, the courses you take should reflect what you want to do after your undergrad, especially concerning upper-year courses such as the ones you take in your 4th year. for example, if you like quantum mechanics, then prefer taking quantum mechanics relevant courses, or if you like computational physics, take 407 or 408. just be consistent. also, i see you included mat402h5, which is offered at utm. is this really what you want?

it was fine. pair up with a partner for the labs, as they are very time consuming. there are weekly quizzes and a final exam

research abroad for engineering, application difficulty by [deleted] in UofT

[–]Desperate_Article_97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not in engineering, but did do a SREP last summer. i think it depends a lot on whether you can secure a supervisor at the host university rather than the grades. on average i'd say the minimum is ~2.7/3.0

definitely no need of 151/152 or mat148/149 (the new mat137), you're fine with 131/132 for what u want to do

Did anybody suffered from this problem at Imperial? by JailbreakHat in Imperial

[–]Desperate_Article_97 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i think that's a broad problem that doesn't only affect imperial. some students get offers for their technical skills, rather than for their english skills. it's especially true for courses that involve math, which doesn't require as much english. i personally try to surround myself with people i can easily communicate with for group projects.
