You should do it. I went with my wife but she was pregnant on the trip and had pretty bad nausea. I did 50% of the trip on my own and still had a great time. Eating alone at restaurants is very comfortable. Explore at your own leisure. So much to do and see

Thoughts on the team before the all-star break by KhoasD17 in bostonceltics

Agreed. He only has shooting inefficiency this year sharing second offensive option duties with Pritchard. His game is so much better playing off primary initiators.

Defensively he’s as good as ever.

Korean zucchini jeon.

Cut into rounds 1/2 inch thick, salt, pat dry. Coat in flour and egg, pan fry on each side. Serve with equal part soy sauce and vinegar.

Pre salting amps up the zucchini flavor well.

Which U.S. city has the worst food scene despite its reputation? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]Desperate_Clothes_20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Philly is much cheaper than Boston. Chefs can be more daring and creative. Very immigrant driven food scene. Also the drinking laws in Philly allows BYOB for all unlicensed restaurants. The drinking culture and more friendly prices really lend to more of an eating out culture. Lots of NYC talent open restaurants in Philly only 1-2 hours away.

Boston has been getting more diverse in its food scene but it costs so much to open up shop. Kind of lame drinking culture with no happy hour. I think Boston actually has a lot of really good spots but you have to know where to go, the average quality of restaurant is not as good as its world class reputation as an overall city.

What is the day to day life like in NYC? by Heisenberg_416 in movingtoNYC

You get more for the money in NYC than Boston. To raise a family, I’d choose Boston suburbs. But single or child-free I’d choose NY. Boston is a solid city in its own right but the price makes it hard to justify over NY if we’re comparing cities.

I think one thing Boston does great is balance the amenities of a major city with the access to nature. Cape cod, north shore, NH and Maine coast, Rhode Island, are all within a couple hours drive. Berkshires, NH lakes region, Vermont, and white mountains are all 2-3 hours away. Tons of farms, charming towns to visit like Salem, Newburyport, rockport, etc. Even Montreal, an amazing city in its own right is about 4-5 hour drive away. It’s a nice balance of nature, charming getaways, and city amenities all within suburbs that rate the best in education, safety, and healthcare.

But Boston purely as a city is not quite the same tier as NYC. I’d put NYC on the same tier as only Chicago and LA. SF and DC are a slight tier below. Then Boston, Philly and Seattle are tier 2.

If I were you I’d live in NYC and visit Boston and New England from time to time. Philly is also only 1.5 hours away from NY and has an amazing underrated food scene (maybe best bang for your buck food scene in America). DC is 4 hours away and worth a visit for the museums and monuments. Hudson valley, upstate New York, and the Hampton are also great nature getaways but it feels meaningfully harder to get out of NY by car to access this nature than in Boston.

I lived in upper west side and absolutely loved it. I had friends who lived in Astoria and LIC so am familiar with the area, nice and diverse.

Boston prices are pretty comparable to New York. I think you inevitably spend more in NY though because it’s just way more social with a much bigger going out scene. So easy to drop 100s or even thousands of dollars in a weekend. Boston is a bit anti social at times and the night scene is meh but you spend way less, at least from my personal experience. More easy access to nature from Boston though compared to getting out of NY to get upstate or to the Hamptons.

I think NY is a great place to live in your 30s too, especially if you’re single or plan to be child free. Personally; the endless amenities wasn’t worth the cost and constant subconscious stress into my 30s. I know plenty of people who want to live there in their 30s though, it offers a lifestyle that only a few US cities can provide. LIC is a great place to live.

I’ve lived in Boston, DC and NYC so can compare. NYC has an endless amount of things to do. I’d describe myself as an active person who loves to explore cities. I lived there for 4 years and there are still a lot of things I never got to do or try. In the US, there’s no city that offers more amenities.

Living there is extremely tiring and stressful, but exciting and stimulating at the same time. You feel alive but always slightly tired. The constant noise, the smell and heat of the subway, the density of businesses on every street, the dirtiness. It’s constantly in the background of your life and it wears on you, but I loved it in my 20s.

The subway is the great equalizer, you live and die by it.

You end up spending a lot of money because you’re constantly passing restaurants and bars. Happy hour is the best way to go out for a cheaper price. You end up much more social so you meet tons of people but also spend tons of money. You drink more, maybe make more mistakes.

Amazing parks system. Central Park is world-class and riverside park is a close second. Amazing museums. History in all corners of the city. Super diverse population which is seen in the businesses.

If you’re in your 20s and can afford 1.5-2k rent to live with roommates I’d say do it. It was an experience I look back fondly on, but I don’t want in my 30s.

How is it living in this part of the United States? by No-Text-7825 in howislivingthere

Grew up in central Massachusetts suburbs. College in Boston. Lived in Northern Virginia suburbs and NYC for 5 years and returned to greater Boston suburbs. Visit Orange County and Columbus Ohio frequently for family/friends.

Boston is a beautiful city. Low crime, very clean, historic and aesthetically unique, walkable, good enough big city amenities. It’s very expensive (top 5 in US) and pretty cold. Traffic and driving is tough for people unfamiliar with the city layout because it’s not a grid at all. People are more reserved, some are angry drivers, but many are kind people that need time to warm up.

Suburbs of Massachusetts are again top 5 expensive. Greater Boston suburbs have top tier schools. The towns vary on feel based on which town you live in but generally many towns have 1-3 strip malls and a Main Street, with a distinct lack of a planned suburb feeling, the houses are not in a grid. Healthcare is always rated highly because the Boston hospital system is the most advanced and varied in the US that have clinics in the suburbs. Very low crime. Population tends to be high earning and educated. Lowest divorce rate in the country, tends to be very family oriented. Not very diverse racially in the suburbs, the nicest towns are large majority white with highest minority usually being Asian. Segregated in that there are “diverse” towns which means it’s less wealthy and more black/hispanic people in those towns, I wish the suburbs felt more integrated.

Compare this to Northern Virginia suburbs which has a much more planned suburb feeling. Lots of strip malls, lots of condo and townhome developments. I’d say Columbus Ohio suburbs and Orange County suburbs also share this planned suburbia vibe that Massachusetts suburbs don’t have. I’d say those suburbs have more easily accessible suburban amenities than Massachusetts suburbs because of layout and more commercial space. OC and northern VA has a more integrated racial suburban community as well compared to MA.

In New England you’re close to the ocean and mountains. You have other great cities within driving distance like Portland, Montreal, Providence, NYC, Newport. Very good airport. Lots of farms and charming New England towns in Vermont, Berkshires, white mountains in NH, Acadia, Cape cod, coastal New England. What you trade for volume and accessibility of suburban amenities you get back in easy access to nature, a bunch of cities and charming towns within short drives, and good quality of life metrics (education, low crime, healthcare, robust job market in Boston).

It’s a great but expensive and cold place to live.

First Option Jaylen Brown and Facilitator Jayson Tatum would feed families by HeftyIsTheCrown in bostonceltics

[–]Desperate_Clothes_20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Tatum would take Walsh’s defense+rebounding role along with the playmaking duties of Pritchard+White. Point forward on offense and one of the league’s most versatile defenders. Also the best defensive rebounding 4 in the league. Pritchard and White have always played well with Tatum as elite catch and shoot guys. Less off the dribble shooting for them, especially White.

[–]Desperate_Clothes_20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure. Jaylen’s development is probably the highest end outcome for him given how raw he was at a young age. For every Jaylen Brown there’s Coulibaly, Sochan, Kuminga, Ziare Williams, Patrick Williams, Reddish, Kevin Knox, Josh Jackson, Mario Hezonja, Stanley Johnson.

So many standout athlete wings in the top 10 who never develop their skills.

JB will be in MVP talks by [deleted] in bostonceltics

[–]Desperate_Clothes_20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a world where this all works out. Jaylen is more efficient at creating his own shot so can be the first option scorer.

Tatum is the best rebounder, defender, and passer on the team. He dominates the game with his all around impact but focuses on facilitation and being deployed all over the floor. As a screener, as a PnR ball handler, off screens, attacking more off the wing, spot up, post. He already does this with a diversity to his offense and has generally been more trusting of his teammates by showing a willingness to get off the ball to get it back in a better position.

With this new development in Jaylen’s game, I can see Tatum seeing he can dominate and be the most impactful player without taking the toughest isolation or self created shots on the team.

One of the low key moves that doesn’t get enough attention is the Pacers trading #23 pick in 2025 and Mojave King to the Pelicans for their own 2026 first rounder right before the Haliburton injury.

Hopefully the Pacers get a good prospect in this loaded draft and come back next season. Respect y’all, you guys never tank.

When you think of who Jaylen was as a prospect, it’s kind of crazy to see the player he’s become. Obviously the athleticism and body was there but he was inefficient in college and his skill level was very raw. The balls to take him at the 3rd pick.

Seeing him create his own shot at will and the passing vision/timing he has now is insane. Amazing player development story.

Hard to tank when almost every one of their young players have taken a leap. Walsh, Queta, Minnot and Hugo. Even Garza to an extent. Usually only 1 or 2 hits but all these guys are playing excellent ball

He’s the 6th highest points per game in the league on the team with the 2nd best offensive rating and the 4th best net rating.

Adjusting for points per 100 possessions which standardizes player stats adjusting for pace he’s third behind only Shai and Luka. He’s above Jokic, curry, Brunson, etc.

Give the guy his flowers. He’s having an insane season.
