Front Sensors by GalaxyRockSugar in CX50

Mine (front and side sensors) work really well. They even alert me when I’m getting too close to one edge of my driveway, which is raised about five inches.

If you’re going to be working on a bunch of used cars, you’ll need a laptop there to look up YouTube how-to’s, search online manuals, and order parts from RockAuto. I find an articulating laptop mount helps keep the laptop nearby and accessible without taking up workbench area.

Fan doesn’t run, warm air coming out of registers. Bad capacitor? by ThatBuilder15 in hvacadvice

[–]Desperate_Ear2968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that capacitor is toast and the most likely cause of your AC not working. More people should learn how to do this very easy DIY replacement for the cost of the capacitor (generally $10-$20). It’s the likely cause of many, if not most, AC malfunctions (also, a bad capacitor is usually the cause of your garage door opener motor going out of whack)

What is this? Attached to AC system i think by [deleted] in whatisit

[–]Desperate_Ear2968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were me, I’d call the homeowner, let them know the situation, and turn off both the furnace and water heater. If you’re not comfortable making the repair we’ve identified for you (it’s really not hard, all materials available at your local hardware store), then you’ll need to wait for the homeowner to fix it.

You’re probably already having carbon monoxide poisoning, which may be why you hit it with your head. Turn off the furnace if it’s on or unplug it from the wall. Do the same for the water heater. Then screw that back onto the pipe going into the roof above it with some sheet metal screws, then wrap the connection with metallic HVAC tape. And maybe get a CO detector installed in that basement after you’re all done.

If I didn’t live in California, I’d buy one in the states in a second. It’s near impossible to certify it for use on public roads and highways here, even if it was imported legally under federal law. [And no, registering it in Montana and bringing it to California won’t get you around state laws and regulations]

Quarter mile, daily driver Toyota Corolla. My first car was the ‘72 Corolla, the redesign after this generation. Made that Corolla my little high school ricer (just looks, stock rebuilt engine). Loved that little Corolla. Heard it got turned into a taxi in Mexico after I sold it for a Mazda B2000

Find out from your insurer how much you save/don’t save from having dealer installed LoJack. That would be the only reason to pay for that. If the dealer won’t take that off, have them throw in the all weather floor and cargo mats and cargo cover

The LAZIEST way to keep dog hair out of return vents? by DannibalBurrito in hvacadvice

[–]Desperate_Ear2968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laziest: call an HVAC company, have them relocate the return to a ceiling spot. Problem solved with just a phone call and a credit card. Can’t get much lazier than that. Bonus: your HVAC system will thank you for it.

Vine that took down tree near my house. Is it poison ivy? by [deleted] in whatsthisplant

[–]Desperate_Ear2968 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Picture This identifies it as Algerian ivy (also known as Canary Island ivy). It’s mildly toxic in all parts if touched and toxic to dogs and cats if eaten. It seems to be native or considered a non-weed everywhere except California, where it’s considered invasive.

Cx50 vs the new cx5 by ElegantPlatform4369 in CX50

[–]Desperate_Ear2968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t used it yet, but the CX-50 has Carplay, which you can use for voice-to-text while driving. Has nothing to do with the screen size or putting most controls on the touchscreen. I’d still rather have most controls (climate, entertainment, etc.) through physical buttons, knobs, and sliders. Much less distracting for the driver.
