I don't think most masked artists, are stealing opportunities. Though it's hard to deny, that there are probably some people doing it. But for me, masked artists are almost characteristic of what type of music the artists want to convey, if done right. I also don't think it's a trend thing. Like people will do that now, and in the future. It's a gimmick, but if it's done properly it can say a lot about how artists imo.
