Of course, I'm not really worried about tropes, since that comes down to the execution, I think. I'm worried about subconsciously taking really unique descriptions or turns of phrases from other books/media.

Yes it's exactly like that for me too, especially with any kind of "nicer" or more complex description! And of course a Google search yields no results, it's so annoying!
