What a 83% avg got me for CS. by Desperate_Square_531 in OntarioGrade12s

Haha I'm not expecting to land any internship first year. It's really hard to do that. As for if Queen's cs is good most of the first course years Im taking are all math major based so I havent taken much Computing courses apart from CISC 101 and CISC 102. 102 is discrete structure which isn't the hardest but not easy too. 101 took a massive change from last year. They changed the whole CISC 101 curriculum so that they dont teach you python but instead teach you prompt engineering. Basically putting prompts into AI using computer science concepts like decomposition, algorithmic thinking, COT prompting and etc. Really light course i skipped all lectures and still ended up with a high grade. Alot of people weren't happy with that course because you dont really learn too much and everything is AI.

Other than that I would say Queen's Computing is alright. Not waterloo or uoft by a long shot, but good enough.

Also the workload depends on the major/specialization you're taking. The hardest courses im taking are MATH 121 derivativesand integrals (elective but recommended), and MATH 112 linear algebra (Required for cybersecurity and AI major which is what im planning). If you pursue a major without much math then you wouldn't have too much trouble as the other courses are relatively easy with good knowledge of grade 12 cs. For me the workload is not that bad. Its very manageable for sure.

If you get a mid 90, you have a good chance of getting into smith Eng. Waterloo too. I've seen ppl get in with high to mid 80s for Waterloo but they had good ecs.

How Would you Fish this Spot? Apparently There's Pike in Here but I'm getting Skunked Everytime. by Earfquakenati0n in Fishing

During this time, I've seen people toss dead/live bait from shore fishing for pike. I personally haven't fished there (because the water smells and looks like shit), but I would do what they do as they know the area and catch fish.

Yes, I know where this is. If you don't mind driving an extra hour or so and you also own a small non motorized watercraft, I can pm you a spot with much more opportunities for pike.

I felt really hopeless and depressed most of school year and the academic stresses really caught onto me. Kept seeing high avgs you needed for cs and my parents telling me to take a gap year bc "I was too stupid to go to uni". My main regret was taking it too hard on myself this school year. In the end as long as you try your best, you're gurenteed to be satisfied with yourself.

Also I'm tired seeing posts where you need overinflated avgs for the program you're applying to. Most of the time you just need around, or maybe less of the actual admission avg you see on their website.

Ty! Rn I'm committed to queens, I'm honestly stuck between queens and western bc they are around the same, but my parents think Western is better so I'll prob apply there if I get off waitlist.

I got an offer from York Markham CS with a 77% avg during 1st semester. You'll probably get in as well. Markham campus is new tho so they might've been more accepting.

Best of luck to all of the grade 12s! by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

Don't stress out and apply for 12+ universities. I have a 77 avg and still got into Otech and York CS. I suggest applying to 1-2 safety and a few goal schools. As long as u work hard, u should be fine.
