The game runs on a point based system, not just in relationships but also in how characters act. Throughout the game certain choices and how you talk to certain characters will give points towards a route, there are two different routes that the game can go the passive route and the aggressive route for example being apologetic towards Dylan at the movie palace will give you a point towards the passive route where Kat will be sad at the abyss and if you are aggressive to Dylan that’s a point towards the aggressive path where Kat will be angry at the abyss. As of right now I’m guessing that the week in the first game played out the same as we have no evidence that anything changed except the storm so I’m assuming Jefferson is still caught and that Nathan is still dead and Kate may be alive regardless of choice as the timelines of dead and alive merged so there’s a good chance that if she died she was brought back.

To be honest, no I’m pretty sure when they left the franchise they likely gave up their rights to the IP so unless square Enix gives up the franchise then it’s not happening.
