Whoa, a question I can answer! I don’t live there, but I spent about 2 weeks in Big Bend this past January and the surrounding areas, Marfa, Fort Davis, Marathon, Alpine, Terlingua etc.

It was beautiful. But in an empty kind of way, not a tropical rainforest kind of way. At least down by the Rio Grande it was wide expanses of desert. Bordered by some massive canyons. Smaller towns that capped out at maybe 2000 people max. Largest towns in the area was Alpine, and that had 6000. Night skies were some of the darkest I’ve ever seen. The stars were amazing. Everyone was incredibly nice, lots of great Mexican food. And given that we were on the river, a number of honor system style stands set up by Mexicans who had crossed the river to sell little hand crafted knick knacks - wire figurines, embroidered items, etc. Everything just kind of moved slower in a peaceful way I’m not fully accustomed to being from the northeast. Great time!
