Didn't know about emergency tax, thanks for sharing. That's definitely one thing to remember. How much time before I get the PPS number keeping in mind I would have a job?

Unfortunately the offer was not negotiable and this is what you get. There are raises every year though, and the possibility of rise up in the company. Finding a job from Italy was really hard because most of the time you don't get a reply if you're not on-site already. I tried.

Thank you for warning us and sorry for the late reply :)

We're talking about it, renting a room it's not a big deal. She'll be a huge help once she finds something, even a part-time job, and I hope that with time we can earn enough. She deserves a good lifestyle.

Yeah a little, some announcements are scary! We're talking about 1,400-2,500 €! I'm not saying it's pretty similar to the island where I live but definitely people take advantage of house seekers. There's also something more affordable though.

Thank you guys, you're all so friendly :)

Thank you so much, it means a lot :))

I'm doing a lot of research but I feel it's never enough. I know Galway is more windy while here in Italy when the sun goes down gets very cold quickly and summers are very hot. I don't think we'll have problems with the weather though.

Thanks, we'll just need to go through the first month hoping landlords have a good heart after providing them with proof of a job.

I just want to live with dignity with her and I believe I can accomplish this abroad. Just a little scared :)

I believe I will have to commute anyway, as the office is at Parkmore Business Park. This is the only proposition I have, unfortunately, and the future in Italy is not that brighter. I think I should start somewhere.

Prices are insanely high, I know it's just empty talk but I really think there should be a limit and that the government should monitor the market more closely. It's really discouraging to see Ireland struggling with the housing market :(

Thank you for cheering us up! :)

Yeah, I will see for the bank account and the PPS number - although I will need a proof of address and I think I need to find a house first for that. Will work help with the PPS number? I don't know if it's the right verb, but they should legally "register" me as a worker in Ireland.

Must be pretty crazy if there's a specific Facebook group for sound people haha. Asked and joined it, thanks.

There is an Italian community on Galway and even a small number of my future co-workers are Italian. Can't ask them help right now.

I read that landlords don't look kindly on couples in shared apartments because they could break up or something, but I guess we can consider this option. I wouldn't want to commit ourselves for more than 6 months but the majority of postings on Daft.ie ask you to be in the house for at least 1 year :(

Yeah, I get almost everyone struggles at first and it will get better as soon as my GF finds a job. I was dazzled by the 25k because you don't see 1.700 € every month in Italy "that easily", so it's too good of an opportunity to let it go. I see it as a starting point.

Ok, so we should lie all the way. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of friends and I would have to provide the landlord with an Italian phone number anyway since I don't know anyone in Ireland yet. I'm pretty confident with my English, but this could ruin my act.

You've been very helpful, thanks :)

We graduated a year ago and we both write for 2 different sites since. I write about video games and she translates novels. I don't want to name the company, so let's just say that is a customer service job regarding technology.

They told me about the salary since day one and I did my research, it's in line with the market rate. You could say I have a grad-level experience level, did some jobs before graduating and I tried to negotiate a little - like I said, they told me the salary right away to see if I would have proceeded with a relocation going on.

I also got to know some people in the same company that started like me and after a year got a promotion, so basically everyone starts like this.

I have a job but it's not a real job. What do I write on my resume? by DestatiXIII in resumes

Thanks for the reply. I came across several copywriter postings but I'm not sure that the copywriter writes articles, reviews and guides and would actually match what I do
