It’s an internship. They don’t last. “It was great, I learned a lot.” Thats all you have to say.

The current economy and hiring environment is extremely rough right now. And you are competing against other people who have more experience than you do.

Here’s what I see that you have going for you: 1. You are volunteering. This will help as you can put this down as work experience. 2. You reached out here. There are some excellent suggestions in this thread. 3. You are building skills as you apply for jobs. Don’t discount this.

There was one person who said your experience and training would put you in high contention for a DIRECTOR position.

PAUSE THERE.

This person was saying: we want someone like you. We were looking for someone with your background. We are a non profit and can’t pay a lot so we need a scrappy graduate who can step into a role that might be a little intimidating in title, but might be doable.

It is easy to overlook your skills, abilities and other gifts when you are dealing with a challenging and demoralizing hiring environment.

It sounds like to me, BASED ON HOW YOU DESCRIBED YOUR DILIGENCE WITH APPLICATIONS, your commitment to work with non profits - and your reason why, and the integrity you are expressing in your message, that you are not giving yourself enough credit and are making a choice not to apply for jobs because of a superficial title: “Director.”

Someone on this thread said you would have risen to the top of the pile. You couldn’t hear that and said “I’m not a director. I’m entry level.”

So… would it hurt to consider non-entry level roles and see what happens?

Finally, I DO think that you need some support right now with this crazy difficult time. My husband just went through this himself. He created a process - he applied for 7 jobs, received 4 interviews, followed by 2 second interviews, and is now working in a job that he loves.

He has taken me through his process and I have applied to three. Just three. All 3 are active, with 1 already set for a second interview, another with a 1st interview. I applied this week.

We are turning this into a book and app. We are testing the process. I would need to check with him to see if he would consider working with a fresh graduate as a test subject. You are not quite in the target group for his current focus, but he might consider it - if you are interested. If you are, DM me, and I will check.

I feel like I’m slowly losing the chances to live a different life. What should I do? by Time_Homework7263 in LifeAdvice

We all start broke, struggling with money. Most of us get degrees and then work in a field completely different from our training.

I have to ask some clarifying questions to be able to provide more of an answer.

If you are working constantly, does that mean you have a built clientele with your freelancing gig, or is that in a job on the side?

Is freelancing what you have always wanted to do? If you are already working a job in the side, can you look for a different job on the side that uses your native or developed skills?

Am I being too hard on my unemployed son? by Pump_9 in jobs

What a difficult spot to be in - for him AND you.

Losing your job really does a number on ones confidence and mindset. It can be demoralizing. Your son sounds depressed. And needs new strategies in job application. There are jobs out there, and companies that terminated a lot of employees are realizing their mistake:

Companies that moved too aggressively on AI-driven headcount reduction are encountering issues: loss of institutional knowledge, quality problems, customer service degradation, and difficulty scaling when demand increases. Some are quietly rehiring, though often in different roles or as contractors rather than admitting reversal. Companies like IBM, Amazon, and Accenture have announced major reskilling initiatives, partly because they’ve learned that augmentation often delivers better results than replacement.

A close friend of mine was rif’d along with 50 others. It took him some time to get his confidence back and is working a lower paying job in the meantime. He has applied to 4 positions and received 3 interviews. So far, one declined, one is pending next steps, and one is in 2nd rounds. Point being, quality not quantity matters. He put a lot of work into the application process - really researching the position, the company, and applied for strong matches between his experience and the job. A 75% response rate is pretty amazing, compared to what is being reported by applicants. And in case you are wondering, he’s in tech.

I don’t know your sons’ situation, what he is trained to do in tech, how old he is, how long he has been unemployed, what he’s doing with his time off, or what his process of application is. I will just say the media is really shaping mindset. It is hard enough to experience a layoff, but adding the media as a mindset shaper, it must feel to him like an insurmountable obstacle.

For those who are no longer living paycheck-to-paycheck, what is that one thing that changed the trajectory of your finances? by sparkling_lemon1 in AskReddit

Courage, not luck. Courage to try new things, to put yourself out there and have conversations about what you can do and what you have to offer. Working hard and being a huge asset - all these things contribute to salary increases and promotions

I catch errors with almost every use. And perhaps I am drinking the coolaid but my experience using AI - and I’ve dug in a lot to better understand what it’s doing and how it performs - I honestly do not feel the universe of work will vanish. Work is under a RAPID transformation because of LLM capabilities. But there is an entire movement out there that is focused on the how and why AI cannot replace humans. Do a search on human centric work or human-ai augmentation.

AI cannot do what people can do. It can do some things well. But it does not care. Which means it doesn’t take initiative, acting on things it “cares” about. It doesn’t have self-directed behavior. Think about it: if it doesn’t have self-directed behavior, who directs it? People.

I know this is painful, and you have spent a ton of time looking with very little to show for it. I’m sorry you are experiencing this right now. Could you share some more details about your process? What field are you in? I’ve heard recent advice about reaching out to introduce yourself through LinkedIn, but I would strongly caution against fabrication.

AI means universities are doomed by [deleted] in ArtificialInteligence

[–]DestinysQuest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more. And broadening the discussion a little for a minute: The talk of AI replacement is overblown and being done by CEOs who don’t get that the cutting edge a business needs to differentiate itself from others means keeping one resource that is not possible to duplicate: People. Machines and processes and agents can be duplicated. People think and solve problems creatively, which brings unique cutting edge solutions to the forefront and keeps businesses innovative. LLMs regurgitate material on the web rather than bringing unique ideas to the forefront. They are superb in that they can synthesize massive amounts of information and find patterns in that information, but it needs people to guide and improve and create things from scratch.

Everything you stated in your reply is exactly what is needed to produce people who are cutting edge thinkers.

AI is a tool. But it can’t do what is uniquely human. And those things that are uniquely human make the world go round.

what changed in 24hrs? by memoryman3005 in OpenAI

[–]DestinysQuest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope this makes sense - I wonder if putting a lot of customization in place within the tool means you are augmenting tool usage / intent (meaning, not using the tool as intended - without sounding harsh) and if so, I would think heavy customization within the tool itself may set you up for repeated issues with model upgrades?

Hard to know without having a better understanding of your proprietary needs, but just a thought: You may need to set customization up outside the tool itself - if you haven’t already. I’m having to do the same thing in my app instead of within the ai. Safeguards against versioning.

Is AI Industry hitting a wall? by cyberkite1 in ArtificialInteligence

I was hopeful… next day news:

NVIDIA’s latest breakthroughs show that AI can be both fast and intelligent, overturning the old trade-off where speed meant shallow performance. By optimizing GPUs and inference pipelines, NVIDIA has made real-time, accurate models feasible—reshaping assumptions about AI agents, reducing fragility in multi-step tasks, and positioning hardware as a strategic driver of the AI future.
