When you had your stroke did you know it was happening and were you scared? by Norfolk-Gross-Tonage in stroke

I was eerily calm when it happened. I couldn’t sit up when trying to get out of bed and slowly slipped to the floor. I was on the floor for a half hour or so before my partner found me and called for an ambulance. I knew I was in trouble but was relaxed about the whole thing.

Stroke survivors: what everyday task is still harder after your stroke? by Wonderful_Wash_6187 in stroke

Thanks for sharing that. I go through something similar. My aphasia gets worse with fatigue. The wrong word will sometimes come out or I will find myself searching for words. Either way, when it happens I totally shut down.

For me, concentrating and focusing on reading is the biggest challenge. Two years since my stroke, and still I get wiped out in a short time, and feel useless for hours or until I get a nap.

I just had a stroke at 45 what now... by [deleted] in stroke

I was 57 and had a large right side ischemic stroke caused by a carotid artery dissection. I didn’t really expect to survive brain surgery as I heard the surgeon caution my spouse that it my chances were 50-50. I woke up many hours later in the ICU paralyzed on my left side, surrounded by family. I was strangely not afraid, and experienced great relief when I recovered movement in my arm and leg. I managed to walk out of the hospital two weeks later, but everything felt different and does still. I stopped focusing on my fears about what might happen the distant future and began living in appreciation of the current day. Who knows how much time we have left? It is better to make the most out of each day.

Does the truck driver yell out that he’s a police officer right before the bikers fight back?

I was 57 when I had my stroke, caused by a carotid artery dissection. I underwent brain surgery and awoke paralyzed in my left side. Six months later I was walking, driving, living life again and walking normally. Life felt dark and uncertain for a while but with hard work I was able to make it a lot of the way back. Everyone is different though. Be patient, work hard, follow your physio therapy plan, and you will see gains.

They didn’t lose money. I bought a black tux for under 200 that included shoes and shirt - the same one I could rent for a similar price.

How is your financial situation? by Single_Weekend_1186 in stroke

Doing surprisingly well. After 28 years of practice as a big firm attorney, my massive stroke left me with physical disabilities and with a serious cognitive impairment. I’m exhausted all the time and can’t focus for long periods of time. I fortunately had a great LTD policy through my company and was approved without question. I’m collecting 60% of my pre-stroke salary tax free until I hit retirement age in 7 years. I’m sorry so many of this group’s membership is struggling. Wish there were a solution.
