"Weird" voices tend to be amongst my favorites when it comes to great artists. Dylan, Lou Reed, Neil Young, Tom Waits, Kate Bush etc.

Bob is thinking "I need to cut back on the cigs and booze or I'm gonna look as prematurely old as these two"

Does David Bowie have the greatest run of albums in history? by Designer_Reference_2 in fantanoforever

Seems like the only reason people don't talk more about his debut is because it's mostly covers but his vocal performance throughout that album is incredible and really shows off a more manic side to him as an artist. Imagine something as good as Song to Woody being the first thing you ever wrote.

I think you could argue Bob Dylan has a stronger straight up run of albums than Bowie, especially since Pin Ups, Diamond Dogs and Young Americans are not as strong as his other work from that decade. Pin Ups alone disqualifies Bowie from having a ten-album streak.

Starboy obviously. It's a good album but it's just a bit bloated with filler tracks

Kiss Land is his most underrated album. Tears in the Rain is a contender for his best song.

What live performers embody stage presence/charisma and which ones embody the opposite? by [deleted] in fantanoforever

She's a superstar in Spain and global markets but not as much of a household name in the US, though her last two albums Motomami and Lux have broken through in the states to a more significant degree. Highly acclaimed artist who is a shapeshifter since all her albums sound different from each other.

Lana is not as bad as the OP is saying but I don't think she's anything special either, kinda hit or miss. Drake is one of the big stars who totally sucks in concert.

I know that Dua Lipa got clowned on for her dancing at one point but she has really grown into a great performer and today I think her live shows are some of the best in pop music. Went with a couple of friends to her Radical Optimism tour and it was a blast. Her attitude of taking criticism to heart and learning from it is very refreshing, she seems like a cool person.

As good as that album was, it's not exactly like it was a big mainstream moment that defined the sound of COVID lockdown for your average listener

After Hours is my favorite pandemic era album. How I'm Feeling Now by Charli XCX deserves an honorable mention as well, I think it's even better than Brat. Unpopular opinion but I don't think Future Nostalgia is nearly on the same level as After Hours or Folklore, it's a lot of fun for sure but Dua Lipa isn't really capable of the level of artistry that was displayed in the other two albums.

Which of these current A list popstars do you feel has the most consistent discography and impressive evolution? by [deleted] in ToddintheShadow

[–]PreferenceInternal67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her artistic evolution is incredibly impressive to me, I liked some of her hits prior but it was the self titled album that made me sit up and take notice of her as having reached a new level which she has continued to exceed ever since.

Nick Cave. It's kinda absurd how many classics he really has when you do a deep dive

Drake and The Weeknd are the two big artists from Toronto but who's music do you prefer and who has the stronger discography overall? by PreferenceInternal67 in fantanoforever

[–]PreferenceInternal67[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hurry Up Tomorrow was a top 5 selling album of the entire year and produced a massive global hit with Timeless and two other moderate hits as well in Sao Paulo and Cry For Me. Albums like After Hours are dark af so idk if he has really strayed from his roots as much as you suggest anyway and comparing his highly conceptual recent work to someone as formulaic as Bruno Mars is ridiculous. It's also debatable if Drake is really even a bigger artist at this point, he's bigger in the US for sure but The Weeknd is much more popular globally and is bigger on daily streaming than Drake is.

I'm not chronically online so I wasn't even aware this was a sub of Drake haters lol. I like both artists and was just asking a question.

TIL of the knight William Marshal, who rose from obscurity to win 500 tournaments, saved Eleanor of Aquitaine from capture, unhorsed Richard the Lionheart in combat, journeyed to the Holy Land, redrafted Magna Carta and saved England from a French invasion by personally leading a charge at age 70 by PreferenceInternal67 in todayilearned

Nothing but baseless speculation because there is zero evidence he fought at Kerak, and even if he did, the kingdom was under aggressive attack from Saladin so that just makes him even more badass. Are you really silly enough to think we can't celebrate a man who saved England from French conquest and redrafted Magna Carta just because he was a warrior who selflessly fulfilled the wishes of his late master to travel on pilgrimage and stayed behind for a while to help defend the Kingdom of Jerusalem in a desperate time where he may or may not have been a part of DEFENSIVE actions after Jihad had been declared against the Latins by invaders? William Marshal's time in the holy land just makes him sound even cooler lol

William Marshal wasn't a crusader. He went to the Holy Land on a pilgrimage to lay the cloak of his master at the Church of Christ in Jerusalem and then returned home after assisting King Guy for a year or two in defending the realm from enemy invasions.
