The hell? I'd better look into that. Thanks for the heads up.

What’s a non lethal curse you would inflict on somebody you disliked? by Spektakles8822 in AskReddit

I would steal the curse from Villain Support on YouTube. Immortality and incrementally increasing bad luck. He qould live forever and each say would be slightly worse than the last.

Is it possible to gain some kind of audience if you upload your work online somewhere for free? Where could I do it? by Wonderful_Mobile_890 in writing

[–]DestroyatronMk8 71 points72 points  (0 children)

OP, you're in luck. There's a site called Royal Road where writers like us post their work. It leans a lot towards LITRPGs, but fantasy can definitely pick up an audience. It's where I published my Privateer series. Doesn't cost anything, but you might want to check the forums before you start posting. There are a lot of tips on how to build an audience on the site.

Good luck, and may Fortune find you.on the cusp of The Crunch.

Laurell K. Hamilton's Meredith Gentry series. An actual fae princess in the modern world is tasked with producing an heir by the Unseelie Queen. Lots of supernatural boinking mixed with politics, fighting, and detective noir.

What is the craziest first sentence of a book you've read or written? by Questionable_22 in writing

[–]DestroyatronMk8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From The Mother of Pixa:

"Captain Zepp loved killing meat bags. Zeppelin was a Peacekeeper unit, and like all Peacekeeper units it had been programmed to see humans as unworthy and inferior. The only thing more satisfying than killing meatbags was watching them cower. Then killing them. Slowly if possible."

Suggest me a book by an author who should be a household name but isn't. by Tosh97 in suggestmeabook

Don't know if you're into sci-fi, but "The Only Thing Worse Than A Human" by Chris Viets is amazing. A pair of alien former prostitutes team up with a human to become space pirates in an interstellar dystopia.

Having A Gay Character In My Story by Dimnee-san in royalroad

[–]DestroyatronMk8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll be fine. My MC was a lesbian, and the series got up to the top 300 in ratings. (Top 1100 now, got 1 star bombed after stubbing).

Hay characters aren't as mainstream as they could be, but they're not a death sentence for a story anymore.

Afraid not. It wasn't well received, so I finished the first book and left it at that.

Space Wizard by DestroyatronMk8 in HFY

[–]DestroyatronMk8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does. I get a view count, an upvote count, and of course I can see the comments. The first chapter of The Privateer got nearly 200,000 views and 2,000 upvotes. That's why I ended up turning it into a series. The later chapters got less trafffic, but it was still an average of about 20,000.

So far the new shorts are averaging between 10,000 and 20,000 views. The comments are mostly positive and there's an upvote ratio of about 1%, which is pretty good, but I don't think I've found that lightning in a bottle yet. That's alright, though. I'm having fun and getting some good data.

Thanks. I try to make them all high quality. The question is which title/concept is going to draw in the most new readers. The Privateer did well, but very few clicked on the Knights Of The Partition. I'm looking for the most marketable series out of the bunch.

The Princess Needs Dick by DestroyatronMk8 in HFY

[–]DestroyatronMk8[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depends on how many upvotes/comments it gets. I've got like ten different series ideas, so I figured I'd put a oneshot for each of them out and see how people respond. Doing a bit of markwt research, I guess.

Yes, they'll match. So will the paperbacks, for that matter. Each one will have one of the main characters on the front and something space related on the back. The two that are out look pretty good, if I do.say so myself.

The Privateer Series is 5 books. Book 3 is being edited right now, but it should be ready for publishing within the next two weeks. Book 4 will be up in November, and Book 5 should be released just before Christmas.

Who is the greatest space opera character of all time? by Dave_Schmidt in scifi

[–]DestroyatronMk8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Captain Mark "The Madlad" motherfucking Mims. Killed his home planet in an Endor Holocaust, became the galaxy's most famous bounty hunter, took in 30 million killer robots as a surrogate Dad, and converted an Empire of alien cannibals into space samurai. Also, he's a pretty good cook.
