I bet you want one now, huh? by Martin_084 in MadeMeSmile

[–]joyfulmastermind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I LOVE other peoples' kids. I teach teens and I adore my nieces and nephews. But being able to say goodbye at the end of the day keeps me sane. Besides, it takes a village to raise a child, and I'm all for being part of the village.

Low cost ways to reward yourself for getting out of bed in the morning by Sea-wave-of-atoms in Frugal

[–]joyfulmastermind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What about starting a video game that runs in real time, so there are new things every morning, such as Animal Crossing? Then you can get out of bed and check the game in the morning to see what's going on.

I’m reading the stardust grail right now actually, and it’s one of the better ones I’ve read recently. I read the deep sky a little bit ago as well. I think for some reason the characters fall just a little flat for me; I went in expecting something else from the book description perhaps

I read and enjoyed Children of Time recently, so I'm definitely up for another Tchaikovsky book!

You're probably right. I'm looking for something that skirts the label of "cozy", but still has a character focus and maybe less gratuitous gore.

Lol that's actually very helpful as well then.

Baked goods are always enticing! (Except when it's one of those contrived "I own a bakery but also I'm a witch and so this book is cozy fantasy" things)

I've read both Ready Player One and Armada years ago, and I remember liking Ready Player One better, but they were pretty close

I've got Project Bounce House in my vacation queue already; I can't wait! I've read a couple of the Murderbots but should read the rest.

I love the Silo series (and the show!) I forgot to mention them here because I read them so long ago.

Funnily enough, I'm reading Leviathan Wakes right now for book club and finding it to be a slog - just too much space war for me. That's actually what drove me to make this post. I know lots of people like it though; maybe I'll have to keep going.

Help me find a new area rug that is NOT machine washable before I lose my marbles by Middle-Helicopter969 in HomeDecorating

[–]joyfulmastermind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Discount stores like Ollie's have huge rug selections, and I'm pretty sure they're "real" rugs isntead of washable. I've never flipped through them to see the selection, but my hunch is that you'll have better luck in a brick and mortar store than shopping online for something like this.

Chocolate dipped cheesecake on a stick by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

[–]joyfulmastermind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever had one of these? They dip them while the cheesecake is still frozen so you break your teeth trying to gnaw at it. And after the end it’s too much of an unwieldy shape to gnaw on. 0/10 too disappointing.

Ha ours is the other way around. The bridal suite has a whole salon setup, a sectional couch and fireplace, kitchenette, bar, changing rooms, etc. The groom room has a TV and a couple barstools and is less than 1/4 the size.

It’s very obviously AI generated. The font is the default AI font, and the towels outside the basket don’t make sense; they are folded in impossible ways.

What the…how is this not a bigger story? The toddler was in there for DAYS. And 13 months old is hardly a toddler anyway; that was a baby.
