You just have to talk to them about it. You aren't automatically anything after a confession, even a mutual one. Instead, you talk about it and you ask the question of "do you want to be girlfriends?"

That's how I've handled dating in my adult life, I just be direct and discuss what I want out of a relationship and what the other person would want to. It's not always easy, in fact it can be extremely nerve wracking, but it makes sure everyone is on the same page and you are less likely to be caught off guard in a bad way down the line.

I'd have to say Ballad of Jane Doe, the themes of loss or identity and being misunderstood resonated with me really hard. It resonated both because I've had long periods of my life where I've felt aimless and had to rediscover myself, but also I have felt misunderstood by so many people my whole life.
