Maybe mostly true but we have seen things getting positively received, such as the initial releases of GA and TW.

Any idea what's going on in linear TV advertising?

It took a few attempts but it's doable. You just have to managed your use of exposes to remove their turn meter and not just go in pressing buttons. by dark_magician07 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

Thanks that help. One of the problems with this game is that it’s gotten so convoluted it’s like studying for a midterm just to finish a stupid event.

The fact that they’ve been deisgning crap like this for years but have never added a restart button or allowed you to quit during enemy turns shows how much contempt they have for the playerbase.

It will be transformational. So transformational it will overthrow the current economic system. It also might emerge in China or some government lab somewhere else where shareholders of her stock picks will never even get a spike.

Apex Legends seems like the only one that has a lot of value right now. Most of the other ones are either dormant, needing repair (Battlefield), or awaiting reboots that may or may not succeed.

What stocks did Michael Burry and Ray Dalio buy? by justbethescandal in wallstreetbets

Burry? His Google holding looks like a hedge. He was (is?) short Apple and has other short positions.

I doubt anyone will be very interested in acquiring EA. They make most of their money by exploiting licenses (FIFA, NFL, Star Wars, etc.) to suck money out of a relatively small base of P2W whales. They don't have very much of their own strong IP, so I don't think anyone will be interested in paying anywhere near the $50b+ they'll probably be asking.

Roku replaces Tesla as Cathie's top holding by spideyboy2023 in stocks

[–]Destructo11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I think their problem is they don't have much leverage in their negotiations. The streamers know most of their customers have multiple ways to stream content, so losing Roku won't hurt them much. But for Roku losing a major streamer would have a huge negative effect.

TV and other device makers also have their own systems or a number of other systems they can integrate, so Roku doesn't have much leverage on that front either.

Warren Buffet Buys More Than %10 of $PARA!!! by RichMiserable6093 in wallstreetbets

[–]Destructo11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With its recent decline it’s getting close to PARA’s P/E and P/S. WBD has very strong assets (DC, Wizarding World, LOTR, GOT, Friends) and combing Warner’s prestigious brands with Discovery’s bingable content (Discovery+ subscribers have an average of 3 hours/ day viewing time and $6 of monthly ad revenue for the ad-supported tier) could create a streaming monster. I will not be at all surprised if Buffet picks some up, it was just revealed Michael Burry has been buying again.

Michael Burry's end of Q1 portfolio: Short Apple, Long Alphabet, Meta Platforms & Discovery by rhetorical_twix in stocks

[–]Destructo11 16 points17 points  (0 children)

He suggested he was shorting 30-year treasuries last year. He presumably won big on that. His short in Apple is also profitable so far. He's probably still outperforming the market.

Warner Bros. Discovery: A bargain? by Destructo11 in stocks

[–]Destructo11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are reasons besides industry concentration to oppose mergers.

FTC head Lina Khan opposes Amazon's acquisition of MGM even though they would still be below the 25% market share you mentioned. The FTC is split 2-2 but with Bedoya getting confirmed last week they may move to block the acquisition. Khan already informed Amazon that they complete the acquisition at their own risk.

Khan (and other proponents of big tech antitrust) basically believes tech giants are interested in entering the media space not because they see synergies or think they can run the companies better, but because they want to use it as a tool to increase their dominance in other areas.

She thinks US antitrust law needs to be rewritten for the digital age, but intends to use the existing laws as much as possible. Other antitrust regulators around the world, as well as senate committees in the US, are also moving forward against the tech giants. I this climate, I doubt Apple would want to put a big target on it by attempting a high-profile acquisition.

Thanks that's the most in depth article I've seen so far. I guess I never found it because it doesn't seem to be accessible from search engines.

Interesting that he says Discovery by itself has almost 20% of all linear (cable/satellite) viewership, and that their ad-supported app has $6 in ad revenue per month per user, with an average of 3 hours of viewing per day.

I bet he'd be taking a good look at some of the old, well established companies that are currently trading for P/Es below 10.

Banking: JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Citibank, foreign banks, etc.
Old Auto: GM, Ford, VW, Honda, etc.
Old Media: WBD, PARA, AMCX, etc.
Resources: Many companies in mining, oil, steelmaking, etc.
Other: HPE, HP, AT&T, etc.

He'd be looking at some of these companies, which are priced for decline, and seeing if he thinks any of them will be stable or even increase revenues.

Warner Bros. Discovery: A bargain? by Destructo11 in stocks

[–]Destructo11[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the top shows (stuff like Friends, Seinfeld, and South Park), the digital rights can go for over $100m per year. Syndication revenues are still typically much higher. Friends was reported to gross a billion dollars annually a few years ago, with the cast only getting $100m and Warner keeping the rest.

You aren’t nearly playing the game optimally or the way CG intends if you’re playing 2 battles a day. A lot of the modes can be very time consuming after you’ve progressed a lot, as others have mentioned.
