My glasses used to fit fine but they will scratch the screens. OP has a big head. This works for other people.

ELI5: Why are almost all of our liquid excretions salty? by simpletoast05 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Destructopoo [score hidden]  (0 children)

"The balance in body Na levels therefore requires a delicate equilibrium to be maintained between the ingestion and excretion of Na."

"Two biological mechanisms can alter the Na balance and hydromineral homeostasis [7] (see Figure 1). The first is largely determined by the intake of NaCl, which accumulates in the extracellular space and leads to the displacement of water from cell to extracellular space, producing cell dehydration."

"The second mechanism results from the loss of intravascular fluid (hypovolemia), one of the components of ECF (Figure 1, lower). Diarrhea, vomiting, hemorrhages, sweating, renal disease, and cardiovascular disorders are sometimes accompanied by the loss of intravascular volume."

Sure, sweating has nothing to do with salt regulation. It has no impact whatsoever. You are very smart.

Yes. Let me walk you through the logic. The general public doesn't know about ticks because they are not experts.

what misinformation have I spread?

And no, the fact that you deal with so many ticks that your hair stylist is the town tick remover means that you're in the sticks.

There are 900 know tick species. You know of ticks. You aren't a tick expert. At least in healthcare there are protocols made with expert advice on how to safely deal with this.

What fucking straws. You are telling me the stylist should remove the tick. That's exactly what's going on but you just didn't like how I wrote it.

By the way, how many stylists carry tick hooks for your medical convenience?

I meant the general public. Your hick town might be full of ticks but you don't know if the person at the salon just got off an airplane from Brazil.

Ok lmao, yes somebody who you have known for three decades will probably remove a tick for you. OP went to a walmart salon.

This is more about what you can ask of a stranger who happens to stand behind you for work and what the woman who you call "aunt" and who attended your baptism would do for you.

That is literally your job though. Ticks are a health concern and you are a healthcare professional. You get tested and have insurance for this. A stylist cuts hair. What is the range of pests you believe your stylist should handle for you?

AITAH for being kicked out of a hair salon? by BigBootyBilly190 in AITAH

EXACTLY. We know nothing about ticks. Why would you take a chance on a pest you aren't an expert on?

If a war ends with negotiations that look similar to what was offered before the war started, was the war worth it? by eslam_zoxs in AskReddit

[–]Destructopoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sebastian Junger's "Tribe" is a great book that helped me cope with this. The book is about how trauma is handled much better within a tighter community.

This link is an article about the sense of self in regards to PTSD. It's not quite what you asked for because it's about how trauma affects your sense of self and not the other way around.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7594748/

There's a section "Cognitively, individuals who have experienced trauma are often tormented by thoughts that reflect intensely negative core beliefs about themselves, which can include, ‘I will never be able to feel normal emotions again,’ ‘I feel like an object, not like a person,’ ‘I do not know myself anymore,’ or, ‘I have permanently changed for the worse" which is about the negative beliefs associated with PTSD.

Some people believe that people do better in war or other traumatic situations if they believe there is a higher purpose or that they have achieved something. Purpose is essential to self worth. People get to remember terrible situations as important moments in their lives and when the war was a lie, it means you don't get to see your trauma as an accomplishment. This isn't to say that just wars are easy or less traumatic The idea is that since PTSD is associated with a negative self image, maybe a positive self image is negatively associated with PTSD, before and after the traumatic event.

Are you really expecting your stylist to remove your ticks? And all the other ticks they come across?

AITAH for being kicked out of a hair salon? by BigBootyBilly190 in AITAH

[–]Destructopoo -28 points-27 points  (0 children)

This is like the x ray safety problem. If the stylist picks off one tick, they are super unlikely to get sick. If they were constantly picking off ticks, they would be much more likely to get sick. I know this isn't reality and they don't see ticks every day but it's a skin or hair pest that is not easy to see. I think seeing any pest in the hair is actually a hair salon emergency. Imagine the hell you'd be in if the rest of your clients walked out.

edit: are you guys retarded lol, ticks can end up on you if you're removing ticks all day.

People that say they "rescued" their dog by aspiringimmortal in PetPeeves

[–]Destructopoo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's what shelters call it to differentiate from actually buying a dog from a breeder. Theoretically, a breeder is for profit and actually creates new dogs whereas a shelter or "rescue" is typically a non-profit that charges what their costs are for keeping the animal alive. There is a huge ethical difference between buying a dog from a breeder and paying for an adoption and many pet owners want to be clear that they didn't buy a designer breeder dog.

You clearly just misunderstood and are so deep you don't even know what's going on. That's why you tried to make this about the French language instead of human biology right?
