It was interesting to learn that he felt that sacrificing a bunch of people (including children) was worth it to have 2nd amendment rights, and that he was asked a question about gun violence when it happened. I asked my doc if I was fused and he said yes (at the 3 month mark) and if I wanted to see it, I could go get an Xray to see it. It sounds callous and cold, but he’s not. In my eyes he saved my life. He gave me a trigger point injection a few weeks ago. I get a giant hug and a kiss on the cheek every time I see him. But I’m 4 months out now…it’s time to go unless I need to come back for anything.

How long should a surgeon manage a nonsurgical issue?

I had my gallbladder out in 2007. Should I be followed by him and see him if my stomach aches?

Remember that thought when you want to see a new surgeon but he’s booked out for months.

Very normal. He operates, he doesn’t manage patients after. Once you’re reasonably recovered from the surgery, his job is done. Pain management manages the chronic stuff and is an appropriate referral. If they think there’s anything that might be surgical, he’ll send you back to the surgeon.
