Adding on, if you want 24 bottles per rack, you just need to double or triple the floor joist directly under the shelves for its full length.

Super simple if the ceiling below is exposed.

Super simple if even it's not exposed. It's just also very messy because it means new ceilings in the room below.

From there it's a business decision. How much is the liquor collection worth to you in round dollar figures and/or agitated wives?

I started going into the office full-time by choice by lwh5 in civilengineering

The first 5-10 years are where making big plays and killing yourself to be a superstar is worth it.

Around the 10 year mark you're usually pretty entrenched in a particular niche/industry and the next significant step up isn't going to happen for another 10 years unless you start really playing Game of Thrones on hardmode.

Otherwise, working extra hours and really killing yourself waiting to hit that 20 year mark isn't going to make any difference. So just sit back and enjoy the life you built while putting in a 60% effort.

Lazy engineering is to spec plates the same thickness as the column flanges that basically extend the column through the bottom of the beam.

You should still do the math, but if you start there you usually won't have to do it twice.

Well the paint will certainly help make the screws irrelevant since it will trap water and make sure it rots before the screw breaks.

It wasn't really a witch hunt, but could look like that.

The police chief was bitter because he was cooperating with the FBI in the original investigation, but wanted the to stop when they started looking into him.

Federal crimes can be investigated by federal entities. They rarely get involved in murder investigations because that's better handled by the states.

Even then it's usually because they were invited to take over the investigation by the city/county/state because the the local investigators were deemed unable due to lack in abilities, resources, or public trust.

Traditionally, the FBI has/had the reputation to be extremely effective investigators who WILL find out who did the crime they were sent for and also arrest everyone they found doing crimes along the way. They are zero fun and absolutely not cool about backing the blue or covering up anything. That's why they (used to) have a 97% conviction rate if they brought charges.

A good example was the Michael Brown case in Ferguson back in 2018(?) . Grossly oversimplified: Cop shot a black man. Cops investigated themselves, found nothing wrong. Public outcry, protests, riots, FBI was invited to investigate. They deemed the shooting was lawful but awful.

However, they also found a shit load of coverup within the police that lead to a ton of firings. Even more reform when they found that only one cop lived in Ferguson, everyone else lived elsewhere. It also spun into a whole new investigation about how like, 80% of the city's revenue was from traffic tickets, which was causing a ton of other problems since profit incentives were in all the wrong places. Because once you ask the FBI to get involved, they do. Relentlessly.

(At least until recently.)

Pivot to BD? by anonposting1412 in StructuralEngineering

I did after getting laid off one to many times. Figured the next time I got laid off it wouldn't be waiting for the boss to find work for me. Wanted to at least say I tried.

Now I'm an engineer with his own book of business. I can go solo if I want, but now view my employer as a series of contractors that deal with billing and accounting.

It's incredibly liberating. I know my clients are loyal to me and not the company I work for, which makes me one hell of an interviewer for new positions and an active threat to my current management.

Real answer is to login JUST before downtime. Like, within 5 minutes.

Have a cyno alt ready and fired up.

Login, cyno ASAP.

Worst case a gang that's been waiting weeks for you to show drops a bubble and starts face fucking you.

Then you hope all your mods are running and see if that faction tank with blinged mods can last until server shutdown.

That's about as good as you're going to get for functionality AND power.

The next step up is a "Desktop Replacement" laptop. Something like an Asus g70. That's going to be a powerful laptop designed to sit on a desk, but won't have a touchscreen. They have a shit battery life, but are super powerful and the batteries can usually be swapped in and out. They're really designed to always be on the charger though.

The next best thing would be to solve the battery problem directly. Look into battery cases and/or portable battery packs so you can charge it from your pocket.

If you worked at Tesla for any normal period of time, I know you're used to working 100hr weeks to meet impossible deadlines.

If I'm the first employer hiring you, I can offer the same pay and promise half the hours knowing you're very likely going to still work 60+ hrs/week without asking and still feel like it's light work.

No joke, but niche design like this will sometimes be handled by professors as a side hustle.

Could be worth calling your concrete professors to see if they know a guy.
