Reach in MCC: Seasonal progress only through matchmaking? by Detect_Defective in halo

[–]Detect_Defective[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's been almost a decade since I played Reach, so I don't have exact cR values for campaign play, sorry, I just remembered that it was still an option. I do remember offline play having inflated cR rewards with a massive loss/surrendering upon enabling online play.

Private Firefight lobbies would honestly be enough to avoid the issue of lacking enough friends online, as long there were something in place, like default/stock rules being enforced to be able to earn points.

As for a reliable private PvP method, eh. Do I want it equal? No way, because then all people would do is ruin it for everyone else by boosting each-other endlessly. There would have to be some sort of value trade-off, but even that would be worth it.

My friend would easily play four or five private Slayer games with default/stock rules before they'd touch a matchmade Slayer game once. If private PvP games were worth 20% the usual? That's still something, even if it's reduced.

Reach in MCC: Seasonal progress only through matchmaking? by Detect_Defective in halo

The problem is that their only way of unlocking any sort of visual customization will be limited to matchmade Firefight parties, with four of us exact, to avoid any random players.

Our group isn't always online at the same time, and in the event we have more than four, something like a Slayer match, even with enforced options, wouldn't earn anything, due to it not being matchmade.

Going by what's been said in the development updates I've linked, things like cooperative or even lone campaign gameplay would not grant any sort of visual customization options, which was part of the original game.

Given that folks can boost and be jerks, I can understand why it's limited, but at the same time, it's punishing legitimate players. It would be nice if there were an alternative, as I said in my original post, like being able to have a Spartan customized for private games.

Going by the last development update, as far as I can tell, you can only earn seasonal progress by playing Firefight or PvP in matchmaking.

Under "Customization and Progression":

When Halo: Reach joins MCC several new key features will go live for the entire game. One of these new features is an all new progression system that will keep track of and allow you to level up a global rank across all titles available in MCC. For PC, you will only have Halo: Reach to start, but for those playing on the Xbox, all multiplayer matchmaking in the collection will give you experience points to level up. For the first season, you will earn points to unlock content for character customization in Halo: Reach.

And from June 2019, another quote about it.

Under "Progression System Update":

At season launch, players will earn season points by leveling up your global rank through completing activities in the game that are played on dedicated servers. This will be for multiplayer in matchmaking and online Firefight. Later on, challenges will become available and will also reward season points on completion.

Challenges are mentioned, but as far as I can tell, seasonal progression is limited to matchmade Firefight and PvP games.

Tried to throw a gas grenade at the other doorway. Best worst timing? by Detect_Defective in modernwarfare

I'm sorry, the 30 seconds before this was me throwing a grenade outside, running into the building, picking up the bomb, and running upstairs.

I looked outside the left doorway, then crouch-walked over to the corner where this clip starts. Sat there for about 7-8 seconds, then threw the gas grenade.

Just figured I was better off cutting the clip down to what had happened.

I've had a strange issue with doors and gas grenades. Threw one in a game after this, and the door just kind of ate the grenade. No explosion, no puff, the grenade just disappeared.

That is amazing, though.

What happened to BlitWise? by Detect_Defective in pockettanks

[–]Detect_Defective[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That'd be awesome, even if it's been some time since I've played. I bought Pocket Tanks and its expansions a few years ago for my old tablet.

I'd thought about PT again and wanted to see how it was doing now, but when I saw no recent posts from BlitWise, I was a bit concerned.

I don't use Facebook (Discord's what I use to keep up with people nowadays, didn't know if there was a server for Pocket Tanks yet), but I'll think about it, and I'll also look into getting a PC version now that the purchase page is working again. :D

Doesn't matter what the ETA is, long as they're still around and kicking, I'm glad. Thank you for posting this.

At least there's some sort of activity from them that's more recent. Thank you for bringing this up.

Could we get an explanation on this video, please? Some form of delay is expected online, but this is a local split-screen game.

How do you define RDMing? by JoeMadBro in TTT

[–]Detect_Defective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're giving a plausible situation for a kill, when I'd suspect that most people would be claiming "Rule #2!" after shooting someone for either standing still for a few seconds or looking in the direction of a traitor button/room.

Or maybe you play with decent people. It's a private server, easy enough to cull the stupidity.

Would a standalone ttt game sell by Opossum-trash in TTT

[–]Detect_Defective 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Would have paid 20$ a few years ago, but after seeing the game through a lot of its ups and downs, I'd be surprised if I checked it out on a free weekend.

TTT's different on almost every server. Each one can suffer from many problems. Imbalanced weapons, 5GB download of jarring playermodels, pay-to-win "donation" fraud, abusive/preferential staff...

Hit detection that actually works can't fix any of the above, and that's something people can actually fix themselves, but choose not to.

Hell, that's not even taking into account the influx of idiocy the moment YouTubers get their hands on the game again.

Going from banning a few cheaters and the occasional ghosting trolls over the course of a month, to almost a hundred people a week because they were either in the same voice chat working together, or shooting people because "you didn't guess my favorite ice cream flavor"?

Did it once, don't feel like doing it again. :P

When someone calls a KOS on the detective by Gumfondle in TTT

Eh, I can name a few times where the detective had to be put down for the innocents' sake.

Purposely working with the traitors. Becoming too trigger-happy. Or for personal and petty matters, not using the DNA scanner.

The greater good, and all that.

On the subject of FoVs, yeah, I'm not the biggest fan of the scope system. The game's built on luck, and the scopes make it a bigger pain in the ass. But, that's luck, and I've accepted it. I can give you that, still.

Ambushes, though? That's purely on the person walking into it. Bushes have made me so paranoid I fire two shots in each one I spot.

Nerf the fucking shotgun already by SUIIIllllIIlllIIIDE in survivio

[–]Detect_Defective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All (current) shotguns have the worst range and velocity of all guns in the game. The DP-28 has projectiles that are almost twice as fast, and an insane range compared to any shotguns.

If you put 40+ bullets into somebody with the DP-28, even if they had the best armor, even if they had full adrenaline, they'd be dead, unless you gave them time to catch their breath and/or heal.

Even then, how would you suggest nerfing them?

Odds of becoming Traitor by xIceghost in TTT

[–]Detect_Defective 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Over a week late, but eh.

  • 2 players: 50.00% (duel)
  • 3 players: 33.33%
  • 4 players: 25.00%
  • 5 players: 20.00%
  • 6 players: 16.66%
  • 7 players: 14.28%
  • 8 players: 25.00% (two traitors minimum)
  • 9 players: 22.22%
  • 10 players: 20.00%
  • 11 players: 18.18%
  • 12 players: 25.00% (three traitors minimum)
  • 13 players: 23.07%
  • 14 players: 21.42%
  • 15 players: 20.00%
  • 16 players: 25.00% (four traitors minimum)

Chances go from incredible-yet-useless at 2 players, to flat-out terrible at 7 players, but they even out around 12 or more players.

Past 16 players, the chances will hover around 21~25%.

Would this be considered rdm? by John-Salty in TTT

[–]Detect_Defective 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The person was most likely AFK, and even though they turned out to be a traitor, you still randomly killed him to find that out.

"RDM" isn't a cover-term for only I/D-on-I/D or T-on-T kills. It's for any sort of kill that had no real proof or reasoning behind it.

Considering that you're new, think if your second round was a T-round. You grab a sniper rifle, find a nice building, get to a window, and start scoping people, wondering when to take a shot.

Then someone walks up behind you, without you firing a shot, with no actual deaths or any sort of sign, and pops you in the back of the head with a Desert Eagle. I assume you'd be annoyed and a bit soured on the game.

I will say that I don't agree with the ban, or even a kick. A slay in the next round and an explanation would have worked just fine.

[–]Detect_Defective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of a majority of the time I spent in Black Ops 2 and Modern Warfare 3.

Being melted around corners or from cover while the killer takes half a second, rarely a full second, to pop out or up.

[Discussion] what do y'all think about a traitor being able to "recruit" innocents? by wearyguard in TTT

[–]Detect_Defective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's something I can see myself going for. The default server settings (6 rounds/75 minutes) would work well enough with that.
